2015 NAFEX Hood Contest
Feb 26, 2015 - 7:48 PM - by stonefalconer@gmail.com
Hello everyone,

I was looking back at some old threads and came across one about a hood contest. I contacted Keith to see if he was still doing it and he and Chris Lynn have both given me the green light to start it up again. The goal of the amateur contest is to get the future generation of falconers working with leather and enhance falconry as a sport while the contestants receive constructive criticism and motivation on their leather work. The pro contest will let other falconers see the amazing work, and to get ideas from them.

The contest will be accepting hood admissions the 4th of April through the 18th. Voting will commence the 19th of April and close the 30th, when a winner will be announced and a prize sent out to them. The criteria for judging will be: Craftsmanship (stitching, decoration, hidden, cross or double stitch, pattern cleanliness), and Artistic design (carving, dying, artwork, plumage, materials, general aesthetic appeal). The winner will be picked by the highest average in the two categories. For judging, NAFEX members will fill out a survey, that I will post on the 19th, dictating the hood being judged and the two categories rated 1-5. A link to these surveys will be at the top of the submission pages the 19th of April.

An amateur hoodmaker is anyone that is not selling their hoods for profit. A professional hoodmaker is anyone that is selling their hoods for profit or is considered a professional hoodmaker by others.
This year, Western Sporting has been more than generous and has offered to supply the amateur hoodmaker’s prize. They have donated a Hoodmaker's Complete Tool Kit.

The prize for the professional hoodmaker’s contest is a $50 gift certificate generously donated by Mike’s Falconry.

In this thread, feel free to ask questions, and if you have a recommendation for next years hoodmaking contest post it here, but remember this is not the submission thread. Those will be opened April 19.

Rules:

1.The NAFEX Hood Contest will be held yearly. Submissions and voting will be taken in April.

2.You may only enter as an amateur or professional. An amateur is any person that is not selling their hoods for profit, and a Pro is any person that is does sell their hoods for profit, or is considered a master hoodmaker by other falconers.

5.The contest submission threads are for photo submissions only. Any other posts will be deleted.

6. Members may vote only once. Any additional votes will not be counted in the hood point average.

7. The criteria for judging will be: Craftsmanship (stitching, decoration, hidden, cross or double stitch, pattern cleanliness), and Artistic design (carving, dying, artwork, plumage, materials, general aesthetic appeal).

9.Entries are restricted to hoods made by NAFEX members.
