I found some pictures that took me back and figured I’d share them. I hope Wes and Jimmy don’t mind being dragged into this. If you have a problem with it just let me know and I’ll take you off.

The first one is my first bird, Hampton. He was a pretty special bird to me as I imagine all first birds are to everyone. I loved the look of his first year plumage. He did pretty well the first season and I kept him through the moult. His second season he was absolutely a blast to hunt! Multiple kills were the norm for him and he was super easy to handle and control. Another falconer here on the board Jason who post sometimes tagged along with me before he was an apprentice a lot and got to enjoy watching Hampton hunt as much if not more than I did that season.

Hampton ended up finishing up his second season with a squirrel head count in the low triple digits, all I hunted with him was squirrels with the exception of one time I when I intentionally hunted bunnies, he killed one then.

I released Hampton the following spring not more than a mile from the place I trapped him.

This is him on the first day on the creance.

This is Hampton’s very first squirrel with me and my sponsor Wes. It was great to have him there for my first kill. I’ll never forget Wes’ words when Hampton pretty much snatched a squirrel out of a tree right out of the GH and parachuted to the ground. Wes said “I like that!!”

This is a close up of the same first squirrel.

Last but not least is Jimmy and Myrtle. I met Jimmy when I was a wanna be apprentice on a mini meet at Wes’ place in Metter Georgia. This picture was taken in a grove of pecan trees right after Myrtle caught a squirrel. If my memory serves me correct almost everyone at the mini meet flew their bird one after another and killed a squirrel out of the same tree. It had to be 4 or 5 consecutive flights of different birds each chasing and killing a squirrel out of the same big leafless pecan tree.

I got to give out big thanks to my sponsor Wes for making these memories possible!

I remember that day, Wayne. And that Pecan tree. I also remember how excited you were to see your first glimpse of falconry. I believe you got hooked pretty easily that day.

Fun times for sure Wayne!!!!! Funny how a trip like that can lead down such long paths. Who would have thought that day that one day I would officiate your wedding, or that you would influence a friend to become a falconer, or that we would have that great group in GA. Life is cool! Backs are not! I know you understand that. [smilie=smileys13.gif]

Nope. This was one of Wes's haunts.
