Probably sometime around 1987 I got my first harris from your dad.

03-07-2011, 12:55 PM
O ok I just talked with him minutes ago and he remembers you. Still have that bird by any chance?

03-07-2011, 02:51 PM
No I don’t.

In that bird’s third year I put the bird out to weather in the morning before going to work and he looked fine. When I got home it looked like he was on deaths door. I took him to the vet right away. The vet drew some blood and sent me home. The bird didn’t make it through the night. The blood results were inconclusive but kind of pointed to some type of poisoning. I tried getting another bird from your dad but he didn’t have any available at the time so I got a Coulson bird. Coming up on 21 years old, that bird is still going strong.

03-07-2011, 03:57 PM
I'm sorry to hear that. Both of our Harris's pictured above are from the Coulson's. We had to start all over again because all of our birds had gotten to old or died in freak accidents.
Take care

i'm not sure if we got a chance to meet...i got down there late and headed out after a quick hello and thanks to andrew...

i ended up staying out late(9:15pm) digging my doxie out of a hole w the help of some friends....not sure if you heard that story? i was bummed i didn't get to try any of that rabbit stew? heard the food was great....

i hope you guys found lots of bunnies like we did...i'm definitely planning another trip down soon...

03-07-2011, 10:48 PM
the rabbit stew, there were at least 3 different kinds, was fantastic....so was that laced top chicken pot pie that someone took the time to make...

03-07-2011, 11:05 PM
The food was great, for certain, but the highlight of my day was EJ talking me through squeeze gutting a rabbit. That was so great! ha ha

EJ, I did not hear the doxie in the hole story. Please do tell.

i knew i should have just left my dog in that hole....he'd have been in there still barking at that damn opposum right now if i'd have let him...

always good to teach someone something too right? like don't buy a doxie..ahhh j/k...good times always outweigh the bad....unless the dogs name is indy or cobie...lets see if i can provoke any of my buddies w smack about their dogs...not that i have any room...

anyway mike, after you guys left bill, jeremy, his wife, and i went across the street and nailed two more bunnies w/ my guys...although on the last bunny artac was down a hole under a 3' cherry tree chasing that opposum...we dug about 6 or 7 holes hitting a ridiculous amount of roots...we would have had him sooner but we just couldn't dig a decent hole to him...sad part was we could see the damn opposum but just couldn't dig to artac and he wouldn't come out to me calling him...which he most often does...1st opposum we've run into too...

anyway, i wanted to take the guys out for crackerbarrel after since it was pretty late to head back to andrews then...what a great way to end the day with full stomach and everybody safe and sound...

...and moral of the story...if you buy a doxie you might as well buy a backhoe...or feed him a lot. :D

03-07-2011, 11:53 PM
Haha. That is both so terrible and so great. Artac was cool, and I forgot to mentioned that my second favorite part of the day was watching him chow down on that rabbit leg, bones and all. Anyway, I was wondering what happened to you guys.

We made it back to Andrew's, then grabbed Steven's RT and headed out with his dad and a few other guys. Steven's RT got a bunny about 5 minutes into hunting, then we hit a few ponds with the hopes of seeing a duck for Steve's gyr, but we saw nothing.

And just for the record: its not a doxie, but Ive a dag on the way...

All right...all right...I'll bite! ;) Yes, my little Cobie did like to fight things...AND...he'd stay down for quite a bit. In fact, I'd usually just leave his crate right near where I parked and went to get something to eat. Then....usually...he'd be waiting in the crate when I got back! Once a guy found him in his crate and demanded a reward for "finding" my dog. So, I gave him a six pack of beer. Problem was he had shoved some kind of gyro sandwich in with Cobie in order to "feed him". That crate smelled like gyros for weeks after I cleaned it out! YUCK!! :(

I'd usually just pull him out of the hole though, sticking my arm all the way down the hole until I could grab his back leg or tail. That all ended though when one day I grabbed his back leg and had a b!&% of a time pulling him out (it was like he'd gained 10 more pounds to his slim 8 lbs. figure). Plus, he was growling at me the whole way up. Right when I almost had "him" all the way up....I heard his bell as he came out another hole!!! I let go of that groundhog sooooo freaking fast!!! LOL

As Larry the Cable Guy would say.....

"Now that's funny, I don't care who you are"

03-08-2011, 10:28 AM

That is funny.

03-08-2011, 03:31 PM
i agree with you mark...that's hilarious...

and since you brought up groundhogs...its just about that season..you going to dig any(intentionally) this year? i'd also recommend using a .22 instead of your hand.. :D

i just bought a marlin .17 rifle for picking them off at long distances and for sticking that barrel down the hole...

Is that Tony Meyers with the gos?

03-08-2011, 07:53 PM
EJ - No I dont believe we met. I would have loved to see that little dog in action

Kitty - That is indeed Tony Meyers. I was fortunate enough to tag along and witness my first gos flight with him. I'm completely amazed I managed to keep it in frame

03-08-2011, 09:34 PM
Hey EJ, what is Bill's last name, the one who got that little black and tan male doxie with the bob tail from me?

03-08-2011, 10:59 PM
Is that Tony Meyers with the gos?

yup, 80 (i think) and just as feisty as i the day i met him. His son Anthony was there as well. Always good to see them both.

03-08-2011, 11:06 PM
joe, his last name is tierney...he's on here i just forget his username...

if you ever get a chance on another thread post some pix of the doxies you have now...
