Hello, i'm Nate. I'm new to the forum and somewhat new to falconry. I'm finally in the process of obtaining my license but have been intrested and studied falconry for several years now. My sponser let's me tag along quite a bit. Here are some pictures. These were taken about 50 miles NE of Wichita, KS. If there are any falconers on this forum around this area or just South Central Kansas in general, i'd love to chat wih you. Enjoy!

Nice pictures Nate. Looks like some wide open country there. I've flown falcons on pheasants and its awesome fun. Welcome to the forum.

Great photos. I would have a hard time not flying a redtail out of a soar in that country as a first bird. There must be cottontails and jacks there, correct?

Are you near the Flint Hills? The WRTC (Wild Raptor Take Conservancy) is holding their field meet out in that neck of the woods Jan 19-22 in El Dorado, KS. Might be a nice meet to attend.

These pictures were taken about 10 miles east of El Dorado.

My sponser is Ron Krupa and is one of the directors for WRTC and I live not 20 minutes from El Dorado, I will definately be at the meet! As for jack and rabbits; cotton are everywhere. Jacks, on the other hand, are a little harder to come by. Ron told me that on one of the days during the meet, a group will be traveling further north to take some jack and chicken. Don't hold me to the direction, i'm just thinking that north is what he told me.

You are indeed a lucky man! What beautiful country to be able to fly hawks in.

I am really thinking hard about trying to make it to the WRTC meet. This is just what I have been wanting to do for a long time.

Actually, I was just crunching the numbers and figure I could do the trip for less than $1,000 by myself. If I could find someone to go with me, I could cut that in half. It is nearly 1000 miles one way.

For years, I have wanted to take a trip to OK or KS to fly quail with a Cooper's hawk. I have a Cooper's hawk on the way that a friend is giving to me and I am flying a dynamite little tercil Goshawk too. To really get the best bang for the buck out of a trip like this, I would want to fly two birds at this meet.

Wouldn't be a bad place to try and trap a passage prairie either!

I've seen several prairies and merlins both here in my back yard/surrounding pastures and on the drive out to the fields. Ron, my sponser, really made it aware to me about the prairie flying across my land. He was so thrilled to have seen one in my back yard.

On the WRTC website it states that if you want to trap while your here, get ahold of Tonya Urban with KDWP. I've spoken to her before and she seems pretty nice.
