Sounds like a tiercel. My hard-penned prairie weighs 750 gms at "fat" weight.

Just weighed my tiercel prairie at about 40 days and he's 560g. I think you got a male.

Hi Michael,

If prairie falcons are anything like peregrines, their growth will not begin to deviate until after day 25. At this age, weight will not likely tell you anything. Do you have any pictures?

Steve

weight has been stable around 580 grams for two days.
I think it will be a male.
My male from last year flew 570 grams.

Sometimes you can tell by the head shape, males tend to have a more round golfball shape, females more wedged.

Man I wish our male prairies here in the states were that big. Your saying your last male flew at 20 ounces?

Michael, it seems you have some experience with prairies. Since I will be flying one myself I was curious what game you fly them at and what style (waiting on, off the fist, etc.) you or your fellow falconers have had success with. Thanks for sharing any of your suggestions.
