Hello.

My name is David Martin. I´m a spanish falconer and new to this forum.
My passion are falcons and I´ve been an active falconer since 1995. During those years I´ve flown peregrines, sakers and several hybrids like gyrxper, gyr/saker and saker/per. Now I´m flying a cast of brookey peregrines and a male gyrxperegrine.
Beside my falcons I have another passion and that´s painting. You can visit my Falconry art gallery at http://www.telefonica.net/web2/dmartinfalcons
There you can now more about me and my work.
Hope you like it.

All the best

You have some impressive artwork there!
I'd love to hear about some of your hawking adventures in Spain. What's your prefered quarry?

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I appreciate it.

Jimmy,

My prefered quarry are ducks, but unfortunately, there are a few of them in the place I live. That´s why they are strictly protected by law. I was practising duck hawking last year in the south of Spain and Portugal, and I really love it.

In the centre of Spain we have a very open country and the best quarry for waiting on falcons are red-legged partridges. They have a short flight when flushed but very very strong. So, falcons need a good pitch in order to catch them. Now I fly two spanish peregrine falcons (Brookeys) at this quarry, being a challenge fligth for the male.

There are another quarry that falconers from the centre of Spain like very much and that´s magpies. They are very clever and opportunist birds. They have a slow but extremely acrobatic flight. Magpies always looks for cover and are difficult to flash in the proper moment. So, you need a strong falcon with low-meddium pitch and very centered over you. Flights at magpies are very dynamic and make falcons very fit and strong. Usually, they have to stoop many times at the magpie until they get their price. I have an eight years old gyr-per who has mastered this kind of flight and I enjoy very much every catch.

Would like to show you some pictures of my falcons but I don´t know how to post it. I will try later.

Best regards
David Martin
