(welc) Well here it goes....As you all know it is hard to nail ducks succesfully so you need to get close first of all! In our group that hunts together every saturday we keep key spots that no one hits during the week, so game is usually present, and we also enjoy helping and seeing flights with RT's, Goshawks, merlins, various falcons, coops, HH's, and even GEagles.

Never can falconry be better then enjoying hunting with friends that "beat the brush" and want everyone's bird to be successful.....well back to the story.

The ducks in many of our areas are not to shy as we have many streams that go through developments etc....so you can very carefully move ducks up and down streams by sloooow walking and not direct flush. This was the case..as we flew my buddy's NAGos first and busted the flock with a nice direct flight and a hit to the back....knock down...ringing up and the mighty wing over to finish the job..boxingg..ya...
After feeding up we seen about three more fly upstream and fly in under some overhanging brush. Back to the vehicles and get the FHH beeped up and ready. In 20 minutes the ducks settled in and came downstream to feel secure behind some houses and under the willows.... Well the boys pulled out their binocs and scanned the stream and called the cell phone saying three are ready to be chased so I made my way down to the the stream and got down on my knees in the marsh grass and gave the okay. My one downside was that my young HH ~21 weeks olds screems frus unless she knows there may be game so I was afraid the ducks would veer off and not come close. (Need advise to stop the screeming...got here @ 14 wks/old)
Well I had friends approx. 50 yds away watching from a hillside parking lot telling me the blow by blow play...remember I am in the marsh grass > 7' high hiding and ready to pop up. Well it was from 75 yds. to 30...20...15.....then NOW!!!!! fencingg I jumped up and threw the bird .....one jess hung up toungeout and she ended up on top of a very large scrub bush and scanned the situation...one drake flushed back downstream...the other hen flushed to the side and by then the HH was pumping hard on the third.....oh no....the duck bailed back to the stream and the HH behind....plooshdohh....the HH in to her neck......my very best friends were closer and he jumped in to get them to shore and the bank...what great friends. haill The HH has more guts, rockon as this is the second mallard that she ended up wet over, with no regrets....Everyone was spellbound to see this gutsy hawk dive into the water....jm

Jim:
Great story. It is away a lot of fun hunting with a good group of guys and gals. Sounds like you have a real good group. The picture were great, I was wondering how long the HH was going to set you hang that mallard out in front of her with out going after it. Congratulation on #2. Keep us posted. Thanks for the story!
