Its time again to plan for the 5th Annual NAFEX dinner and raffle. It blows my mind how fast 5 years have gone since the 1st one. I am really looking forward to this years dinner, they keep getting better and better. As always, the raffle is free and there should be plenty of falconry gear to raffle off. You do have to pay for your own dinner, the past dinners have run about 20 dollars. I have not decided on where to have the dinner, the date for the dinner will be November 20th

Location: The Chicken Coop
Time: 5:30 PM
Date: 11/20/12

The Dinner will start at 6pm sharp.. Orders will be taken then

Chicken Coop
215 A Ave
Kearney, NE 68847
Phone 308) 338-8500

Web site :http://www.chickencoopsportsbar.com/Kearney/index.php

Please do participate in the poll if you are going to attend the dinner. It gives me a good idea of how many will be attending.

I will post when I decide on the venue location. If there are any locals that know of a great place please PM me and let me know. Rex from vernal really helped me last year and it was great to have a local resource to find a good place. Thanks again Rex for the hook up last year!

If you have not been to one of the NAFEX dinners you are really missing a great time. Its fun to put faces with the names. Everyone that comes to these is there to meet others and share in good times.

I look forward to seeing the repeat offenders beeer

Please click the link below to see what the past NAFEX dinner/raffles were all about. http://www.nafex.net/forumdisplay.php?f=25 ( the past 4 years are all stickied at the top)

** If you have anything you would like to donate to this years raffle, please email me (admin@nafex.net) or PM me (http://www.nafex.net/private.php?do=newpm&u=1)your item. Anything is greatly appreciated**

If you ask me, you'd have to be crazy not to make the raffle! Seriously, last year some schmuck apprentice won a falcon and has been the subject of about a thousand state farm jokes since that time.

Wait, that was me. Yep, I'll be there.

Chris- i don't know what it is yet, but I'll be bringing some sweet falconry schwag to donate to the raffle as a token of my appreciation for last years bounty.

Hi Paul. Not much to report yet. Unfortunately I didn't get her until 3 weeks ago and she was FAT! I've been bringing her down slowly so she doesn't crash on me, but I'm thinking today could be the day she finally hits her response weight. If that's the case we'll start training with real intent.

I'll start a thread and post some pics here shortly.

How's that gos? Are you gonna make Kearney?

Joel,

LOL, Your reaction was priceless when you won the falcon. That year was the best raffle to date. Its great to hear you have the bird and are flying him. I look forward to hearing how he does. THank you again Fred for donating the falcon. THat was very generous of you.

Thank you for bringing some items for the raffle, I couldn't do it without all the generosity of the NAFEX members and business that support it.

I look forward to seeing you again.

Me and the misses have it on our radar...we'll see what Murphy does...

I hope you can make it Jeff, I know murphy can be a bastard though

The first NAFEX dinner I went to was, I believe, the first one and the wasn't a raffle so this will be my first raffle and I am really looking forward to it.

Fred, you will not be disappointed I promise! The raffles are so much fun and we all have a great time. There are a few that get very lucky and walk out with some very nice falconry swag. I look forward to see you there!

I will be there with a plus one most likely. Chris I will be bringing one of my coroplast giant hoods for the raffle.

Brian, Thank you for the generous donation, I really appreciate it. Someone will be very happy to get a nice hood like that.

It will be great to finally meet you in person. I am not sure if I want to though, I think you and I have way to much to talk about and I may come home with a new hobbie ;)!!

Oh yeah, I'll be there. The gos is fine, just about done molting, I'll her going in 2-3 weeks.

Paul I know you have NAFA obligations but I hope you can make it to the dinner. I would love to have a cold one with you.

See you there!

Ken, thats awesome. I know we can find some trouble somewhere this year ;)

Sorry, cannot make it. But I will donate two sets of reward tags.

Will sent my certificate via email to the raffle coordinator. Hawkmom74@yahoo.com

Kitty,

Thank you again for your donation. You tags are always a hot item at the raffles. I really appreciate your continued support of the NAFFEX raffle. I sure hope we can meet face to face one day. Thank you again

I want to thank all of the members for donating items to the NAFEX Dinner Raffle. I really couldn't do this without these donations. It means so much to me and I really appreciate all of the support. This is why NAFEX is the number one falconry forum on the intent... Thanks guys!!!!

Hi Ken,

I'm easy my friend. What ever works best for you I am cool with. The dinner is so low key, not many rules. Just beer drinking and sh_t talking.. I can't wait to see what you are bringing to then dinner. It will be cool to finally meet you as well, it's fun to put a face with the name

I have had some more items donated. I am in Santa fe for the weekend and will update the thread when I get home. We do have another hood to enter in the raffle, another book and something from a good friend in the UK!

For those of you coming to the dinner have a look in your falconry stash, grab something that has been sitting around a while it doesn't matter what it is. Big, small, micro... It's great when everyone leaves the dinner with something

thought so, I worked in an Irish Pub & we of course went all out for St. Patrick's Day, but I also did Rev War re-enactment w/ a guy who wore his ancestors Black Watch tartan, and rendevoused with a couple Scots w/family tartans and old, old Claymores swords, and knives all over. We snuck out of camp one night and went to a local bar, in period dress. The door guy checked us for weapons, had em everywhere ^ stopped him at 6. When we staggered back ta camp, guess where his "participant ribbon was tied???? which has nothing ta do with thread's original path, & in the words of Larry the Cable Guy," Lord, I apologize..."

Gaz, Rich, Brian, others! Make a note of this post! LOL :D

Can't wait to go this Chris! Like I said before, I think I was at the first one that didn't have a raffle, we all just met for dinner. I think it was in Amarillo! But the ones since sound like they have really been a great time and I can't wait to go to this one!

Oh yeah, I tried to sell this hunting vest and no takers so I don't really have anything else worthy of donating so I am going to donate this vest to the raffle. It is an XL from Mikes Falconry and is brand new, too big for me so I bought the large and really love it. Here is a link to the vest on his website.

Yeah, that is what I thought when I ordered it. I have really broad shoulders and figured XL, but when it came, it was too big. I probably could have made it work but I figured I could sell it so I just ordered a L and that is what I wore last season and am wearing this season.

And speaking of trading, since I haven't been to any of the past raffles, exactly how does it work? And I am sure we can trade with others if we get something we don't need and someone else does and wants to trade or at least, I hope we can.

I have it narrowed down to 2 places. I need to see how many total are coming before I book it. THere is a place right across the street from the meet hotel. Gaz suggested it and I liked it, but I think we will have to big of a party for them.

Another member, Chris, mentioned a place with a private area. I will probably do that one. It's 6 miles from the hotel, I didn't that that was that far. I will post soon on what I decide.

You may have already looked into it but with a quick search I found this place. http://www.cellarbarandgrill.com/Menu.aspx It's about 3.5 miles from the meet hotel.

That Old Chicago right across the street would have been perfect if it were bigger.

I am not much of a beer drinker, only drink it when I am around others that drink beer. So when I do drink beer, it is usually some type of IPA. When I wasn't drinking Jack Daniels in college, it was usually Miller Lite, so I am somewhat used to it. But compared to the good beers out there now, it is pretty watered down but I can still tolerate it. LOL

Think flasks.....:D

No worries there Rich, I always have a flask in my hawking vest and probably will carry another one with me for when I am out watching other birds fly and don't have my vest on. You just have to always be prepared when you go to these meets! :D

You realize Jack's place is only an hour from me right? Jack Daniels is kinda the state liquor of Tennessee.:D We hve had our problems in the past, I now prefer a little more gentile whiskey. Jameson and Guinness have been my preferred combo for a couple of decades now. I see no reason to change a good thing. I will conceed to mix the two together and add Baileys for an Irish car bomb. One of my all time favorites and been known to do signifigant damage.

Rich. Thanks man. Yeah, it was no problem here. Just a very windy, rainy day and some extremely high tides. Good waves though. I was down at the beach watching some of my buddies who were out surfing. I got excited initially when I heard that Sandy was coming up the coast of Maine. I thought they were talking about Sandy Bullock. :D

Brandi and I will be there as soon as we get the weathering yard secured and get cleaned up. As I am sure will be the case for Rich and his clan!

No worries Mario, show up when you all can. I know you guys have to get the yard taken care of. It gets dark so early now, you should have plenty of time

OK, since I haven't been to a NAFEX dinner that had a raffle, how does it work? Are there groups of tickets for each item sold that we buy or do we just buy a bunch of tickets and they all go into one big pot and they start pulling a ticket for each item until all the items are gone? And how much are the tickets? I need to know if I need to sell some of my Lowe's stock before I leave this Friday! :D

Hi Fred,

There is no buying any tickets, The NAFEX.net Raffle is 100% FREE! THe only stipulation is you are an active NAFEX member. You get one ticket when you arrive to the dinner. That ticket goes in a hat, Once your ticket is drawn you then draw from another hat that holds all the prizes. The actual member decided his own fate with winning so no one thinks its rigged or any favors are being done.

Again this is 100% free raffle! I do not make one red cent. I put this together every year to foster camaraderie amongst falconers. I hope to help take away those wedges that seem to be driven between us at times... Good luck and see you all soon

No, I am sorry he has to be an active NAFEX member to be able to be in the raffle. He can come to the dinner and all are welcomed at the dinner. I put a lot of hard work and time in this to give my thanks back to those who make this forum what it is. It's my way of showing my appreciation for such a great community. Plus all the people who donated to the Raffle are showing their appreciation for NAFEX and it really isn't right giving free stuff away to those who don't make the community what it is. NAFEX would not be here if it wasn't for the members who post and participate on the forum.

Now if I charged for the raffle then anyone could be in it and I would not have to be so restrictive on who can participate. And yes I do ask and look at names on NAFEX to make sure the people are members and are active. I have told a few in the past that they cannot have a ticket.

Not sure if the above came out like I wanted it to, I hope you get what I am trying to say... I didn't want to sound mean or off at all. I am just looking to take care of those who take care of the great resource we all enjoy using.
