I'm a member of another forum that has an outdoor section. They know I'm a falconer. One of the guys there spotted a hawk and passed this info on to me. If anybody knows someone who has lost a bird, let them know.

Yeah, I saw it this afternoon around 2:45pm on Highway 11 just on the inside of the flood gates near Irish Bayou.

I passed it on the right shoulder and realized what it was. Turned around and pulled back up to it on the opposite shoulder. It stayed there for a few seconds and then decided I was too close. As it took off to fly I heard the bells and saw the tassel hanging off its leg. It flew up into a tree and stayed there till I left

Here's a pic, It's a bit blurry from having to zoom in.

Appears to be a mature RT.

He says it was right about where the green arrow is on this map.

Thanks, Michael. If anybody wants to go try to get it, he said it was in the same tree today.

Here's a more detailed description and map:

The location is on Highway 11 just south of Irish Bayou (Exit 254, first exit at the south side of the I-10 Twin Span Bridges) in New Orleans East.

- Follow HWY 11 SOUTH, back towards New Orleans for approx 2 miles.
- Pass through the flood control gates.
- Make note of the power line poles on right (marked by red dots in map) as soon as you pass the flood gate and count until you get to pole #5.
- Directly across the highway from the 5th pole is a dead tree (marked by green arrow).
- This is the tree that he flew up into yesterday and the same one that he was sitting in today when I passed again.

The tree is a little south of "half way" between the flood gate and the rock parking lot for the boat launch that's south of the flood gate.
