Photo Update on new Redtail

I got a little picture crazy this weekend and thought I'd give a photo update of the new redtail.....she's still pretty heavy, but she's calming down nicely....still no interest in food though! We were just hanging out in the living room watching the boondock saints (great movie) and I just had to take some pics!

Nice looking bird, BIG feet. She will be able to put the real crush on her game. I see you use P-cord for a leash. How do you like it? It is nice to see people useing the old way of hooking up a bird with figure eight swivel and jess. I do not like seeing people use small holes and french clips. But that is just me. I am from the old school.

Ev, All I use is Parachute cord my for leahes and creance line. You take the guts out and it is light as a feather but soooo strong. IT is so easy to work with.

Seeing I got my first bird in 1975 when I was 25 sort of puts me in both class [smilie=eusa_boohoo.gif] But we will all get there some day [smilie=icon_pray.gif] but it is fun getting there. [smilie=banana.gif] Since we been getting the powder snow the sqr. are holding up. The snow is just to deep. If Th spots them on the ground it is [smilie=icon_hang.gif] If we would get a warm day and put a crust on the snow they will be back out. I hope tomorrow is good for you those bunnies are just waiting for you. [smilie=smileys13.gif]

Ev. I like the parachute chord ok....5 or 6 years ago I found some line at a Big-R up in Oregon that was what I would call the perfect leash material. It was a single 100 foot length wound neatly, lying in an entire bin full of rope. My boss and I were sifting through it all looking for good leash material and this one peice caught our eye! It had the perfect diameter, density, rigidness....everything [smilie=icon_thumright.gif]

I would still be using it today if I had a clue what brand it was, or were to find more of it. But I dont, and I've given more of the leashes I made from it away than I've ever used!

So this year I ordered the orange parachute chord. I take double the length I want and pull one end back through the middle to form a loop in the middle and then burn the ends together. It is incredibly strong, but it allows for some "pop" in the line when a bird recovers from a bate and sometimes I notice the swivel getting thrown back between the jesses. (I think a jess extendor would eleminate the problem) and the hunter orange is almost impossible to lose! Im gonna try to find a bigger diameter p-chord next time though, this stuff is smooth as hell and hard to hang on to!

Yeah I'm Sampo all the way! french clips are great for other uses and I have a bunch in service......but never on a leash!

I use P-cord for jesses as well as the leash. My jessses are real long. The only time I use jesses is to trainport the bird from the mew to the GH. and when weathering. I remove the jesses when fly and when in the mew. So I keep them real long and wrap them around my finger while carrying her. If you ever find something your REALLY like buy at least two or more because you may not find it again [smilie=BangHead.gif] [smilie=eusa_boohoo.gif]

I hear ya Ev. Wish there woulda been more of that rope to buy at the time,,,but there wasnt! I dont fly my birds with jesses either. I really like my leather jesses! But then, I've never tried anything else.[smilie=dontknow.gif] Guess I always firgured if it aint broke dont fix it. But everyones got their thing. Thanks for the input, and good hawking!

I am using the Dacron barrel swivel system. I like it much better than either clips or a regular swivel. I use clips on my RT's, but it is a completely different system. On my falcons, I use the dacron jesses with slits. I used a leash with and inline swivel and loop on the end. The loop passes through the jesses and the leash passes back through the loop in the end of the leash. It is pretty awesome! I want one made from spectra though as it is pick proof!

I have to agree. The two guys with sunglasses and guns adds to the toughness of the bird!
