Ok guys, just came up with an Idea.. I know it is February but I will be stating to make yearly NAFEX calenders, I will do one for this year as well... What I would like to do is get the members to submit your best photos and I pick 12 to go into a calender.

No one will know the pictures that are being used until the calender comes out. I think it would be cool to see your picture on a calender and see others from real falconers.

Again, I will be doing this yearly.. just a little behind this year.. damn brain needs to hurry up with the thoughtsfrus

What are your thoughts on this?

Exactly how i feel.. clappI think it would be neat to see a NAFEX member calender... No Wes, not shots of you in a thong, holding your harris and your dogconfusedd

I want a falconry calender done by falconers, lets see some action shots or just pictures of your birds.. what ever you think others would enjoy for 30 days :D..

if so lets get some pictures posted.. February is almost over.. I want to make one for 08

'08 is cool.. you are late , work on the '09 calender now... sounds cool but , T-shirt , patches, sound like the way, although a nafex calender sounds sweet also ...

Love all the pics, especially the first Harris and the Merlin. I just started to take pics of my bird and will invest in a good camera next season. Here is a shot I took of my Harris yesterday...not calender worthy but I thought it was funny the way he looked at the bunny. It's like he is thinking "what now?"

thanks guys.

i am suprised no one has said anything about the Jackalope?

about a year ago my boss came into the office and asked if i had ever seen one while hawking. shocked i said no. he said he had seen one stuffed in Sisters OR and was told they were real.

so as a joke i put thos horns on that jack as a joke then framed the picture and left it in his office.

not long ago our new secretary was amazed at the photo and fully believed it was real. said she had even seen one herself.

of course this is the same woman that when she asked me why wool area rugs smell i told her it was the goat pee they use in the middle east to die the plant fiber yellow when hand weaving the rug. this didnt turn out so well when she passed that tidbit on to the customer. he had a good laugh when i explained it to him though.

I like the pic of the RT in the snow. That is a neat one.

Chris

The pic of the eyas is cute. Looks like he's picked his first book to read but hasn't decided which way it needs to be turned.

Andy

In one of your pics of the peregrine, the gray sky with the pinkish sunset streaks blends perfectly with the color of your bird. Beautiful pic!

Great pictures everyone!

Too funny Chris!

I know what you mean about the Jackalope. My uncle has a very large party room with all kinds of mounted fish and animals in it. He has a Mississippi Swamp Monkey made from the tail end of a white tailed deer ....you can only imagine what the nose is made out of! If you've never seen one, you wouldn't believe how real it looks. You should hear some of the comments that were made by people when he'd go into his long story about how he got it down in the bottoms.

Hi Lee:

Thanks. She was something. I think I'll stick it out with the eagle this next season and give him an honest shot at jacks. Perhaps another passage gos in two years.

Dan, did you make that hood on Ruthie?

The hood was made by my good friend Larry Ray, in Spokane, Washington. It's a blocked, sewn hood with an Arab closure. I love these hoods on eagles and goshawks.

Thanks, Dan and Lee. I always feel obligated to point out the photographic talent is not mine. Having nice looking birds attracts good wildlife photographers. Lee I really like your coops pics. I think they'll be able to put together a top notch calender from what I've seen on here, and they have a few months to round up some more.

I had a picture of my gos tearing into a bunny on my screen saver for a while and got some comments like "Ewuuu that's gross" Thought mabe you'd want a few pics that don't have a bloody, half-eaten carcass in it. :D

I have never caught a cottontail with a Red Tail. I've never even seen a cottontail in New Hampshire.

This is a December, 2007 picture of Tess, my (then) 2nd season PFRT w/Whitetail Jackrabbit in the San Luis Valley, Colorado. The valley floor is 7,500 feet above sea level and the mountain in the background is 14,000+ ft. Mt. Blanca. She is an awesome jack bird with strength, power, and confidence that make her one of the best I've ever flown.

I like this shot. Don't know why? Maybe it's the spartina grass. Also shows the size and powerful build of a big female gyr/per hybrid. Duck is a female hoodie taken in style.
Another a few years back of the tiercel. colorful

I agree. This is truly a "one in a million" picture. You can go forever to get it all to come together like it does w/this on. I believe it's the only action picture I've ever seen of an RT on a snowshoe hare. How great to have such a moment memorialized beyond one's memory!

This is a picture of my wife, Sandra, in 2004. After 31 years of marriage and taking care of my birds when I traveled on business, she decided she wanted to try her hand at it. She had finished her chemo and radiation treatments for breast cancer in late summer and wanted to both regain her strength and for us to have more time together - walking up to the edge of the pit will do that to you. Her tiercel, Jack, was the perfect bird for an apprentice - great temperament and a very good hunter. She caught 50 rabbits with him her first year. It's been 6 years since then. She's remained cancer free (praise God!) and felt her time with Jack was instrumental in resurrecting her "old self" from the ravages of the treatments. Unfortunately Jack died suddenly the next season of unknown causes (vet Ken Felix was on the scene when it happened and he thought a stroke, aneurism, or heart attack). She's not flying at this time; grandkids are her hobby right now, but she's thinking about getting another tiercel to fly this fall.

Hmmmm, I will tell you where they are not ;)

There are some great pictures here. I just bought a mac book pro and I hear there is some software on macs for doing them. If its not to bad I will make one.

I will go through the pictures and see what I can come up with. I do have a little free time. I will contact those who I use to get written permission to use your pictures.

If the costs are reasonable I will do a run of them

thanks greg for sharing that wonderful story.

Sean, thanks for your comment. Nearly 4 decades together have given Sandra and me a very close bond that we appreciate more each passing year. Having her with a bird on the glove and time together in the field has been very special.

Oh, and Sandra came up with a new regimen in keeping our birds that has worked out really well. They are NEVER picked up off a perch with meat on the glove or fed on the glove in the mew or have food tossed to them in the mew. Every meal is either via a timed feeder in the mew with no human present or away from the mew. The result is almost zero association with the mew, us and food. As a result, they bate very little, if at all, when we go out to get them during hunting season. Why should they when they have no expectation of being fed? Better manners, sharper talons, and less wear on the feathers are all further benefits. Interesting that the "apprentice" taught the "master" a thing or two, eh?
