my cousin lives over there in Hampton TN. And you you may start this falconry experience with a thought of it being a hobby, but beware it will consume your soul.

Think of it being like a whirlpool. You paddle close to the edge out of curiosity, and before you know it you're being sucked in. Not that you'll mind too much in this case, I think...

On a more serious note, you might also want to get in touch with and join your state falconry organization or club, if you have one. They're great ways to meet other falconers/potential sponsors through events like picnics and meets. As a fellow pre-apprentice, I would also recommend you check out The Modern Apprentice (http://www.themodernapprentice.com/) if you haven't already-it has good information for apprentices and pre-apprentices on a variety of topics.

(welc) First thing is to contact your state club and go from there. http://tennesseefalconersassociation.com/
There are certain procedures that need to be followed to get a falconry permit, but you should talk to a few local people first to see if you are truly interested and have the time to take up falconry. The molt is upon us now, so not many of us are hunting birds at this point, but it still would be wise to network with the local falconers. Falconry is not so much a hobby, but becomes a way of life.peacee

Your first stop should be contacting Walter Cook at the region 2 office of the TWRA for a Falconry information packet . Once it arrives you can familiarize yourself with the state and federal regulations regarding falconry that are pertinent to TN. When the packet arrives it will contain a few names of state falconers willing to speak to falconry hopefuls.

While you wait look here http://www.n-a-f-a.com/RecommendedBooks.htm. for lists of suggested reading materials for would be falconers and read up on NAFA while you are there.
We have a Falconry Association here in TN http://www.tennesseefalconersassociation.com and you can go here for some basic info about Us and falconry here in the region.

There are some stellar falconers in east TN, if you decide it's for you, you will be in good hands.

You will also want to read through the rules on Posting to this forum. You need to sign your posts with a name.
