hello anne,im also new to the forum.i live near Sherwood forest in Nottinghamshire England.i have a deep interest in all birdlife but more so in raptors.i have a couple of peregrines at this moment in time.i have met a few people from Utah, mostly mormons ,there seems to be quite a number over in how country, most seem to be into some form of hunting of somekind. I was thinking of visiting Utah at some time, probably you could give me some ideas on were to go and stay ,anyway take care for now.

hihi,

Utah is a desert with a rich diversity of habitats from mountains to lakes both fresh and salt. I am ashamed to say I haven't explored my back garden. But I can give you a few links that will help you decide where you might want to go.

http://www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/kolob-canyons.htm is in south Utah

http://www.utah.com/stateparks/great_salt_lake.htm in the north

http://www.utah.com/playgrounds/bonneville_salt.htm north/west

http://www.visitdinosaurland.com/Utah-Field-House-of-Natural-History-State-Park-Museum

As for hunting... http://wildlife.utah.gov/hunting-in-utah/hunting-information.html

Hope this helps.

Hi Anne,

I'm new to the forum and from Utah as well. How has your experience been thus far? When you say that you are in the "early stages of apprenticeship" have you taken the Utah exam? Have a sponsor? Have you gotten a chance to meet with any established local falconers? I'm in the same spot so I'm just curious to hear how things are going for you.

Best,
Vaughn

When I first posted I hadn't yet done any of the things that count towards actual falconry (short of studying and learning what I needed to do). At this point I have passed the state test. Obtained a sponsor. Gotten my mews passed off inspection. And finally have a store of food for the space of time between trapping and first successful hunt. I haven't tried yet for trapping because I had a family vacation (which was just recently wrapped up).
