He came to the lure promptly when I flashed it for a bird about 3 poles down. He seems to be hungry and a little irritated, but none the worse for wear.

Glad you got him back. But don't take this wrong, but it's a shame he didn't stay out on his own a few more days. Nothing like a major attitude change when they find out how tough it is out there and then come back. They wander less and seem closer to you after.
