Truly my favorite RT in my falconry career. Ill be flying him one more season then releasing him. If i can beat last years head count with him ill be happy but that has a 74 head count and that is upstanding for a first year passage.

Hey Chuck, nice looking bird and nice numbers! I wish we had those numbers of rabbits around here. I see you have some of the bullet jesses, how do you like them? I have a very old set that he first put out and didn't like them, but have since bought the new ones, but got them at the end of the season, so haven't tried them yet as I don't want to change my birds equipment now that he is in his molt.

Fred,
I use the bullet jesses durring the moult. My first RT had no jesses durring the moult and as wild as he got it was a real pain to get the bird back not to mention the mental trauma on the both of us. I dont use them while hunting, not to say that i havent in a pinch but with maynard i just got to the end of the season where i didnt use jesses at all. The bullet jesses i think are the best way to get your bird out durring or after the moult for maintainance.

Tim,
Quail are doing great! Right now i have a good 230 quail growing for that eyass gos that i cant stop thinking and dreaming about. Are you still up for climbing the tree for me should that situation come about? My surgery on my knee is schedualed for June 11 so that doesnt give me a big window to get the baby. I do have the weekend of the 7-8 in june off and i think that might hopefully be the magic moment.

Hey, Chuck. Good to see you, and Maynard, on here. He really sounds like a great bird. Hope I can see him fly at the meet this year. Have fun looking for nests, you guys. I'll be looking forward to hearing some good news!

Chuck,
I will do it, no problemo. You should set up a backup plan just in case, though...You don't want to miss your window of opportunity in case something comes up. My work situation is pretty predictable, but crazy things can come up that would make it difficult. I will keep those dates in my mind.-Tim

Chuck, thanks for sharing. Love the truck! Been looking at an old 86' that a guy is selling for a few hundred bucks, but its nowhere near the shape yours is in. Those little nissans are the best hawking wagons IMO.

Tell me about it. I saw 3 cotton tails while walking the dogs on Wednesday afternoon and I was like HOLY CRAP!!! It's the mother load! I haven't seen that many at one time all last year!

Wow! Nice head count Chuck! How were you hunting your redtail? From a high perch, or off the fist? I used to try and fly redtails off the fist, the head counts weren't as high, but the flights were pretty cool.

We have bunnies here in the country, but you have to walk quite a bit of ground sometimes. The plus side is that the walking is really enjoyable in my neck of the woods. The jacks are in easy walking cover. The cottontails, not so easy. IN town, that is where the real bunny/jack population is at, but it is also 30 minutes at the least into town.

I would hawk myself to death in situations like those black and white pics! I would put in for my upgrade to Master so I could get another bird and would hawk a cast of female HH's until their feathers fell out.

Maynard finally dropped his first tail feather today. Same day as my last bird and 2 days before my first bird. It really must be because of where my windows are and where the tree is and how much direct light he gets. I think for sure my next mew will either have a skylight or for sure a connected weathering area to the mews that he can just go out and fly into and get the sun and rain at his leasure.
