View Full Version : NAFEX decal design submission

Chris L.
05-16-2008, 09:50 AM
I am wanting to create a NAFEX decal and a member of ours does these, Kenn Filkins, please see his company at http://www.filkinsfoto.com.

He has offered to make some up so NAFEX members can buy them if they would like, all proceeds would go back to fund NAFEX and future NAFEX events. He also had a great idea, he mentioned having the NAFEX members submit their design and we would have a vote off for the best design.

If you would like to be a part of it please post your submissions here or email your design to me (admin@nafex.net) and I will upload them for you. I say we have a 2 month dead line, and then the members of NAFEX will vote for what design is best and that will become the new NAFEX decal.

Let me know what everyone thinks

I like this a lot and I want to thank Kenn for offering his services.

The winner will get 20 of his/her winning bimper sticker and a NAFEX t-shirt as well. You can plaster the town with them :)

Sweet!

I'll work up a few. Kenn or Chris, are there any limitations to color or gradients or anything like that? Will they be cut from a single color vinyl sheet or actually printed on a sticker?

What is a decal?

A sticker.

Mike,

The color decals will be printed on vinyl and laminated. (They will be printed on the best quality system for outdoor decals and signs.)

So... The sky is the limit on color variation and creativity.... You have no limits as far as the tech aspect is concerned.

Enjoy.

Take off the .NET and I like it! It will be interesting to see more designs!

Chris, does NAFEX have any official colors? If not, something in red, white and blue would be cool! I couldn't design something if my life depended on it, but I sure as beep can critique others! LOL toungeout

I don't care for the .net on the end either but it is a message board and the web address needs to be on there somewhere. It's not to the point of an organization like ducks unlimited or something like that where you have a local chapter and everyone knows the logo.

The color choice on it (other then the harris) is based on the colors used on the boards. Not identical but similar.

I might even use the second one as the new banner firsts

I am looking forward to this thread...

As Mike said. The .net has to be in the bumper sticker somewhere. People need to know how to find us...

thanks again my friend!!!

Well I pm'd Chris. Why one bird pictured? The great thing about this place is the variety of birds talked about here. And imprints too. I don't have software to make what I am thinking. What about N and chris's pic with the rt and squirrel, A and a gos, F and a falcon pic, E and an imprint and X a pic of a HH. You could type in north american falconry exchange below it. ???? Of course the font needs to be very bold so people will notice it.

Just an idea - don't know how stupid it will look until Mike gets a hold of it.

I like it more natural like the second one. I don't really have the right software either for it. I lost a LOT of pictures recently too.

I had thought of something along what Kim said too. Each letter made out of a picture.

I think you also might want to do a "round" decal too that was small for boxes/windows.

What is the "traditional" bumper sticker size? Or are we expanding into new decal horizons here with no limits : )

Isobael
05-17-2008, 11:54 AM
What is the "traditional" bumper sticker size? Or are we expanding into new decal horizons here with no limits : )

There are three standard sizes for bumper stickers: 7 x 3.5, 9 x 3, or 15 x 2.75 inches

These are what MOST places will limit you to.

However, in a previous post, it was stated that there are no limits in the tech aspect, so...I thought creating any size would work.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Kenn Filkins
05-18-2008, 08:05 AM
May I suggest that we make the decal designs in two shapes, with the third category to allow for great freedom?

Bumper Stickers = 3 x 11 inches.

Small window decals = 3.5 inches in diameter.

Custom decals = any shape or size....

This still give us "freedom to design" and allows for some standardization of the two basic options.

I like this one also. Could we get it set up for different birds, then we could pick our favorite bird.

I can slap whatever bird you want on there. I just don't know how Kenn wants to handle the printing. If we get sharpies, coops, goshawks, redtails, harris', peregrines, gyrs, merlin, all on there there own sticker it will certainly make it more of a pain for printing but Kenn is calling the shots so whatever he says.

I've been toying with some ideas lately, but most of my imagination seems to have gone away! I noticed I was slowley moving away from the normal "sticker" mentality and getting into a badge or shield design....not sure why!

Anyway, this is one of my doodles. Its far to busy for my taste and I think Im going to try something similar with harris tail feathers instead of the RT feather. Just thought I'd share, and look for thoughts.

Mike, We can print specific birds on different decals.... I think. I'll have to review some details. That thought occurred to me too, when I read the post.

Thanks guys, I have a lot of fun making stuff like this so its nice to have a reason to spend time on photoshop!

Mike that texture is rusted metal with a bubble wrap on it. I sometimes apply other affects to it before the wrap to give it more uneven reliefs etc....I've found the key to getting better textures is to make them huge and then downsize them (at least in some cases!). that image was almost 30 inches wide when I made it and had nearly 40 layers.

The red tail against the yellow moon, just wondering how that will look. And if you change the letters to be blue, that will make the red tail show up even more.
