Cool coloring! Very light colored bird. Have you had him his whole life? What's the story behind him?

No...i haven't had him his whole life. But he has been at the center i work at for about 18 years. He used to be a falconry bird...but in his second season he was out hunting and ran into a barbwire fence. He damaged his wing and in the end lost a third of his right wing..so he has problems flying....and he can't soar. You can see in the last picture his right wing is injured. Now he is used for environmental education programs.

Do you happen to have pictures from is younger days? Was he always that light? I worked at a center during highschool and we had 2 rts both in their early twenties. They were decently dark birds. I was visiting my friends up there last week and saw the birds whom are now in their late twenties- ones 28 and the youngen is 25 i think. They are substantially lighter- especially around they eyes/ beak, and on the back of the head. The pattern looks almost exactly like your bird does too. Wondering if this is a common characteristic of old RTs. Neither of our birds looked like that when they were "only" 22 or so.

I am not sure if he was always like that. I will have to dig around and see if i can find some old pics of him. It would be interesting to see whether or not it is a fairly common characteristic. There is another RT at the center that is around 18...and she is still "normal" in color.
