Greetings to the Nafex board!

My name is Carolyn and I'm a General Level falconer from Wisconsin. I was introduced to this site by one of the other members from down in Georgia. I'm just finishing up this last season with my fifth red-tail, Nina. It's been our best season so far! The freezer is full, and I've got the nicks and scars on my face and arms to prove I was out in and under the brush with my bird. So no pet-keeping here!!

Feel free to come and visit my blog where I write about our adventures!

Looking forward to lurking, and maybe meeting a few new folks!

Carolyn,
Welcome to the forums. It sounds like you had a great season. Do you have any pictures of your bird.

What are your plans for this coming season. Are you going to fly your Rt again or get another bird.

Welcome again and please dont hesitate to post

Hi Carolyn:

I am a ladyhawker or ladyfalconer myself - Not The [smilie=BangHead.gif] . I am a first year apprentice flying a female kestrel. We had a great first year. I like the small birds so far. My husband has flown RT and is getting 2 harris hawks this weekend.

I like your blog page.

This is a great site. Very informative. I love the quail launcher plans (hadn't tried making it yet, have to find someone to help me with that) and the story on Zach the sharpie.

Welcome
Kim

No problem Chris. I have never used a welder before so I have to get my husband to do it. He is going to be very busy come Sunday.

My kestrel scratched my eye with her wing 2 Sat back and I'm still not seeing real well (Seeing double out of that eye & have to see a specialist now). That was # 30 and she traded while the starling was still alive. Baggies anyone??

Keep up the good work everyone

Hello Chris!

Yes, I have lots of pictures of my bird! I would prefer my Avatar was one of us both, but I can't make it sooooo tiny to accept here. You all have some secrets on how to do that?

I'm going to intermew Nina one more year. Still might be able to add to the game total before all is said and done. We still have cool days!

Thanks for the forum!

Hello!

Yes, I flew a kestrel for a year, but I was a sad failure, so in the spring let him go. He figured out real quick I would feed him if he didn't hunt . . . so he didn't hunt. I didn't have any baggies to get him going. And I live out in the country, without too many towns nearby. So all our avian possibilities are off limits. Believe it or not, I DON'T have starlings and sparrows at my feeder . . . well not too much! I'll have to talk to the other lady falconer who posted here, and find out how she got her bird on game. I'd like to try again someday.

Nope, no hares. I would have to go further North for them. But yes, where I live, mostly bunnies. We got 29 this year. Best so far for me! But squirrels can be found too! Got 2 of them! Nina got a big bite from the last one. Quick attention and she's just fine . . . just some good nicks on her tough ole feet!

Thanks for the Hello!

Carolyn

I'd love to hear how you got her on game! Have you told the tale out here anywhere? Or do you have a blog of your own? Myself, I ended up trapping a male, and I'm pretty sure he was an adult. NEVER NEVER go trapping with someone (in this case my now Ex husband) who is not completely enthusiastic about trapping all day. He made us stop after the first catch. Would have been better to try for the passage female. Oh well . . . next time!

I'd like to hear how you got her going, and what has she been catching?

Good Luck with the HHs!!

Hi,

I'm new to all of this, from Milltown WI, an older guy [67], who has long wanted to fly a hawk but never had the time it requires to do a good job of it. I haven't taken the test yet but have made contact with several folks that I'll be helping beat the brush for in the coming months.

Somewhere I noticed you are now in LaCrosse. Each year I bring reindeer to the Riverside park for their festival of lights. I was hoping that maybe in the future when I'm down with them you may have some time to show me your set up.

Thanks and hope I didn't bother you.

Tom,

Not sure if Carolyn is regularly visiting the forums since her move. She's been pretty busy, but I will pass the info along. Good to have you here! Feel free to ask any questions!
