It was a fun afternoon for sure! The photographer was a buddy of mine, Randy Roberts, he's been dying to get out hawking with me for a couple of years.

Nice one, Paul. When things get better for me, going hawking with you and Jim(rptrlvr) is on top of the list...maybe within year or two.

Awesome stuff there Paul! I really like that setup you have on the gos for the telemetry. Do you mind taking a closer picture of it and putting it on here. I tell you, the more I see pictures of NM from you and Jim, the more I lean to moving out that way some day! Tell your photographer friend we love his pictures, really good stuff!

Thanks for all the compliments, I'll pass them on to the photographer. It's been a bit of a rough season so far, the female, Frieda, has gone through a metamorphasis this season, she's become violently aggressive at times, so it's baby steps with her. She did super on Saturday, had some awesome flights on cottontails in very tight cover with bunnies beating her to the holes. Then she smoked a jack, and ten minutes later smoked another but my dog ran in to assist in killing the jack and it got away, finally 20 yards from the truck a poor 2/3 grown bunnie made a fatal mistake. After flying her we had a 1/2 hour of light left and moved a short distance to a new field and got a quick bunnie flight for Lou (6 yr old tiercel gos) who caught and lost and caught the bunnie again. So it was a super fun afternoon, one where I had a new person in the field and things went right despite the odds!

Here are two additional shots of Frieda & Lou on a bunnie, the light was perfect!

Hi Fed,

I made my tail mount to be a copy of this one.

http://www.lancsfalconry.co.uk/tailmount.htm (click on the pics for a blow up)

I really liked the mounting method of using 2 feathers. I made the plectrum out of calf hide, cut two slits for a Marshall tail mount to slip into and crimped and epoxied it into place. I didn't use a bell, but I did put a screw type rivet in to hang a tail protector on. After putting the Marshall mount and the rivet in place I contacted cemented thin leather to the back of the plectrum and cut it to size. I punched two holes on either side of the rivet and used some telfon ribbon from a Marshall back pack mount to glue and zip tie to the hawks deck feathers. I like it because there's a bit of slack in the ribbon and it doesn't interfere with the tail, and it's really easy to get the transmitter on and off.
