German Wirehaired Pointer pups whelped 2/15/2009. 5 males/3 females. Both parents have hips x-rayed and have been vet checked. Both parents are AKC and NAVHDA registered. This will be a litter of great falconry/gun/testing dogs. The dam is a very sweet natured hunting dog. She was purchased for a field trial prospect and did well early on, but due to distance from trials has become a foot hunting dog. She is extremely athletic and adjusts her range well to fit tight cover or open range. The sire is a hunting machine. He is a gun/falconry dog. He has guided on ducks, quail, and pheasants across the south. He is alos a house dog that plays with our 4 year old daughter daily. We have high expectations for this litter. The asking price is $450 with preference to homes that are willing to NAVHDA NA test the puppy. please contact Dennis Friedrich if interested at dandgfriedrich@verizon.net.

Guys if you have been thinking about trying to get an all purpose dog this would be a great litter. Jeff is almost a NAVDHA judge and knows his stuff and the dogs well.

I had a DD which is the german registered version and I have seen her tree squirrels with a rabbit in her mouth and seen her point quail with a rabbit in her mouth. These dogs will do pretty much anything you ask of them and they have a beard. ;)

Here are some pictures of the pups at 2 weeks old. All are healthy and growing well. Eyes are open and you can see the ticking on the body starting to grow in.

Jeff,

I truly wish I could get one from you, but we just don't have the room, maybe someday....

I figured I'd update the pictures...pups are looking great. The litter is pretty uniform. Personalities are starting to come and coats are pretty obvious at this point. Here are pics of some of the puppies...

Pups are seven weeks old now.

Only 1 pup is not spoken for. It is a female that I really like. Quite a few have gone to falconers.

I took a male puppy as my stud fee. We named him Gideon. We picked him up on Monday and he has met what I expected from this breeding so far. At 7 weeks old I have seen him point quail and pigeons, he is retrieving bumpers and birds, he is already using his nose looking for birds, and he has been swimming. :D

I just bought this male pup from Dennis. I pick the pup up on Sunday. I have a 6 year old wirehaired pointing griffon now. Great dog.

I am pumped about this pup. So is my family. What a team. A griffon and a GWP. Getting up jackrabbits for my eagle. Who knows how many passage goshawks down the road also. Thanks for the heads up on the pups.

Those are good-looking pups and sound fantastic. It's a breed I am really interested in. Can't get another dog now unfortunately but if you're still breeding in a few years I might be looking into it.

It looks as though the GWP pup isn't going to work out. We had problems shipping the pup to me this past weekend. Problems with the airlines. Seems the cost of shipping the dog to me from Texas is going to cost me as much, if not more, than the dog did.

The airlines are really starting to rip people off here in the U.S. Specifically, Delta and its affiliates.

Just wasn't worth it to me. But, I'm still looking closer to home.

I'm sorry for the premature puppy post.

Best,

Dan

Here is a picture of the male I kept from this litter. At 7 months old he points, tracks, swims, and retrieves like a wirehair should. He also has the "off" switch. He has a short tight wiry coat with nice furnishings.

Tomorrow I will be venturing to a NAVHDA test to watch 4 pups from this litter of wirehairs run. I'll try to take some pictures. It's fun to to see all of the dogs go to hunting homes and then be able to evaluate how the litter turned out with test scores. This was a first time breeding and so far the pups have looked pretty good. I'll post results when I get back...

Went to the test yesterday. It was a good day, but really tough weather conditions. It started out with a thunderstorm and heavy rain and turned into 30mph winds with cold temps by the afternoon.

3 of the 4 dogs passed the test. The one dog that didn't pass failed because she was a big runner that was a little out of control. She looked like a field trial dog. She outran her nose. With a little maturity and control, she's gonna be a great hunter like her brothers.

Other notes about the litter: all dogs have a really sweet/loving temperment, they are all great family dogs, the pups seem to have nice searches with good noses, they all have very high retrieving drives, they are all uniform sized with good coats, they all have plenty of point.

These 4 were hunted this last fall and all hunt well...

Here are pics of 3 of the dogs:
