Hi all. I'm relatively new to the falconry scene. I'm currently living in Michigan's U.P., but will be moving somewhere else this summer (don't know where). I just passed my written test with Michigan, I have a sponsor, and I'm waiting to hear back from the dnr for my next step (it's a bit slow here since our permit specialist just retired and his incumbant won't be starting until March 23rd or so).

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.

Jason

Hey Jason,

Welcome to NAFEX... You'll love it here. Some fine folks here, I must admit.

Make sure to keep us posted on your progress!

I look forward to seeing you holding your first pRT....

Best of luck with your move. So you're getting your family out of da Soo, eh?

Best Regards,

Jason:
(welc) Jason, where do you live in the U.P.? Are you going to relocate in Mi. or some place else? How about giving us a little history about yourself. If you are down my way stop by. If I remember right there are only three falconers in the U.P. and only two can have apprentices.
Have fun and yes things in Mi. are at a stand still at the moment.

Will you stop by to see US on your travels to Whitefish Point?

Ev,

Flying again now that the bitter cold weather is gone. They seem to have changed over the winter. More willing to hunt together, and more respect for the other when one is on game. They just fly nearby and land and watch to see if the critter will get away.

Sadie had fire in her eyes and has been flying great. Yesterday, she got a 20 yard slip off the glove, at two pigeons. She exploded off the glove after them, and was very close to grabbing one on the rise. If it was duck season and we could get some ditch slips, she would have a high quality chance of catching some. I love the fire in her eyes.

Sam is back to his old (young) self. He's really figuring things out now. And he's flying like the wind.

Winter was rough on all of us up here in da Upper Peninsula. Six months is FAR too long.

Ev,

Currently I'm living in the Soo. I have no idea where I'm relocating to, honestly. I just go where they send me. I've been in MI for 5 years now and I started getting into falconry about a year ago when a friend of mine (gee, guess who) introduced me to his HHs. I've only been to one meet. Well, it was more of a mini-meet last fall down in Mount Pleasant. Tons of fun, good people and tons of rabbits (at least compared to the U.P.

Originally I'm from WI, my wife is from MN. My son was born in WI and my daughter was born in CA. We like to try to stick around in the midwest, it's familiar to us.

I'm not sure exactly what else to say. I'm glad to be on here and I'm excited to actually get started with my own bird.

Ken:
I will try and make it, it will depend on a lot of things. Time will tell.

Thanks Joe. I'm not sure about going down to Kory's. I've got something going on at the base I don't know if I can get out of. I might not be done until around 3 or 4 on Friday. I heard you guys were leaving the Soo around noon. I'll let you know if things change though. I would love to see Mystic fly again.
