I was extremely excited to go back to Texas for my birthday/Easter/wedding planning. We went to see my family at the 501 Ranch, which my uncle and aunt run. Here are a couple of pics. More to come as soon as get the rest off the other camera. toungeout

The Hunter's Lodge where I'm getting married. Built for the hunters that come to the ranch.

Some of the decorations of the lodge. All of the animals here were hunted on the ranch.

My fiance and I paddling around the island in one of the tanks. Apparently this one has tons of ducks. Hhmmm.... Maybe duck hunting with a BOP is in my future? :D

Really bad pic of me with one of the wild piglets my cousin trapped. He has a small group that he's breeding.

Bad pic of me and my cousins after my first hog hunt. We were starting to clean it here. I swear, wild hog bacon is sssoooo much better than store bought.

I have some pics of the snakes and owls that we saw on the other camera. I'll post them soon. I also saw a ton of harris hawks. Not to mention the usual red tails, black vultures, the barn owl, the nesting great horned owl, and tons of deer. I love that place and cannot wait to move closer to my family so I can visit more. Enjoy!

That is a cool place for a wedding, Micah! And you are right about wild hog tasting better than store bought stuff!!! So, are you moving back to Texas?

There's some really nice hunting lodges in Texas. There was one, maybe Brandi can tell you more about it than me, where they were so excited to have some falconers fly their hawks and falcons for the guests to watch that they were giving them pheasants to fly on and extras to take home! I was flying kestrels at the time so I just watched.... I think they still have an open invitation to go back and fly there for free.

I'd love to hear more about that ranch that was wanting falconers to come fly there for free...

Call me. Goose (FRT) caught a pheasant out there. Not sure if they still do stuff there or not, but I will find out.

I'll have to check with my aunt about prices. The lodge is still fairly new to the ranch There's also an option of staying there or in one of the motels in town.

You can hunt deer, hog, quail, dove, duck, and just about everything in between. Someone will take you out and even bring one or more of the dogs, depending on what you're hunting.

And some more pics...

More of the tank with the island in it. They also have a small lake on the ranch.

Bad phone pic of the deer breeders.

The one stupid snake I was able to find. I was hoping to see some Texas Indigos and I was searching for a particular species of rat snake, but this Diamondback and one Coachwhip (didn't have the camera for that one) was all I saw.

And this is the house my uncle and aunt live in. The man who previously owned the ranch was a big Y2K nut, so he pretty much boarded himself up on the ranch. Their garage is a small airplane hanger and there's a runway close to the house.

I'm trying to find out where I put the owl pics. I have them somewhere. Oh and Brandi, we're moving back in June. I'm already packing. :D

So for those who were asking about hunting on the ranch, etc., I finally have the updated web site.

http://locomotive501ranch.com/

I can't quite remember who coordinates hunts and stuff, but please let her know that Christie B's niece sent you! And feel free to bring your bird, even if your not hunting her. My uncle would love to seem them! If you have any other questions, feel free to pm me.
