Stef and I headed out to NM to get the new house arranged and get my new breeding chambers/mews built. The new house is great and we are really looking forward to making more like home once we get out there. I would like to thank Paul, Greg, John and Stef for all of the help with the new chambers. I could not have done it with out you all.

Paul, I would like to thank you and Lori for opening your home once again to Stef and I. The food is always amazing and your family is awesome. You will being seeing a lot more of us once we move out there. You have had fair warning, I don't want to hear how hard you had to clean this time :D;)toungeout

Nate,
Dude always a good time my friend! Thank you for the great owl flying. We truly loved it. Please tell Nan hello from the both of us.

Tanner, it was great to meet you. Stef loved the Alien beer. Thanks man!! Next time I will save you some Ketchup:Dclapp. Reebok was beautiful. ;)

While we were there, we did some hawking. I took my hen Harris, Migs. She did great considering it was her first week free flying since last year. It started off rocky but towards the end of the trip she was doing what she knows best, putting game in my vest. Most of the time I flew her in a cast with my buddy Greg's harris. They are a great team and enjoy flying together. It is such a treat when a cast hunts together.

Here are some random pictures from the trip. I hope you enjoy them.

Great shots. I echo the others when I say I'm jealous. Those are pretty cool toboggan caps with the Nafex logo. I didn't see them listed in the Nafex store - any of those available?

Thanks,
Ted

Looks like a great day Chris. Is that the only species of quail out there or do you guys have bob whites too? We have two here, but I only see bobwhites really. I guess no pheasants? What is the jack population like?

After you get settled, I want to come over and hawk. If you let me know when the moving truck is coming, I might can make it out then and give you a hand.

Is it just me, or is that a really small SUV? How do you get all your stuff in there?

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Good luck on the move. I hope it is a smooth transition!

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I really enjoy taking falconry pictures, It really helps you see things you would have never seen before.

More pictures will start showing up once I get out west. I finally have a reason to take the camera ;).

Rich,
Tom is doing great. He fly's the hell out of his falcons. I really enjoy hanging out with him.

yeah the house didn't get as far as I would have liked, I had to fly my birds you know ;) :D

Ted, It is amazing out there. Do not go visit you will do what ever you have to to get a job out there and move, wait that's what I did ;)

About the caps, I do have some. I have to come up with a price. Let me know if you want one.

Wes, the quail you see in those pics are right out my front door. I have a covey that lives at my house. pretty big covey too, about 25 of them. When I was looking at the house the first time with the Realator, the covey walked by and I told the Realtor I will take it!!

There are Bobs as well. i saw 2 coveys of them. There seems to be a good many quail there. I hear of pheasants as well but did not see any while I was there. I only hunted the fields around town. I have a lot of homework to do when I get there to find some good fields.

About the Jacks, They say the population is down. I didn't see a lot of them but did find one good field. Again, I didn't do any hard core scouting so we will see what it holds for me.

Come on over for sure. There is plenty of room. I will let you know when I get settled. Looking forward to it!!!

Thanks Andy, I am really looking forward to this move. I am hitting the road next week. I cant beleive it is here so fast.

The Bob-whites only occur in the southeast part of the state. But they don't have any Mearn's (Montezumas) in that part of the state either. I think they are mutually exclusive.

I Love the desert! Living in Nebraska now I sometimes miss the sage country north of San Diego. Every bush had a jack or a bunny sitting under it. That dry desert you hawked in looks absolutely fantastic.

Donna, I cant agree more. I love it here. I have missed open country for a long time. It was a great thing to get out of the South. The hawking their doesnt touch what is here and the beauty of the land to go with it. I can actually watch the flights and see the game. After I pick my hawk up I can look over my shoulder and see snow capped mountains, antelope in the field and some mule deer running.. I am sold for sure.

J,

Roswell is in the central flyway and the ponds here are open ( not frozen). I think that will answer your question ;).. Oh forgot to mention, had some friends in town this weekend who fly long wings ( peregrine and a prairie falcon) 3 ducks came home with us. 2 pintails and 1 teal...So when you coming???

Please forgive me if the information has been disclosed in the thread. I skimmed through but didn't notice. What kind of coursing dog was that? Looks like a walker Fox hound with a greyhound head. I love it!

He's 1/4 fox or coon hound, 1/4 saluki, 1/2 greyhound more or less.

Hi Robert,

Yes, that's Chance, and he's my dog. Sorry for the short answer last night I was on my way out the door. He's 9 years old and past his prime, but he's a great hunter still just not very fast or much stamina anymore. He is from Dutch Salmon, we had his father too, but he died of bone cancer in '05. Dutch writes about his mother, Bounder, in his book Country Sports, she was 1/2 greyhound and 1/2 coon hound or walker or something. Anyway, Chance is awesome dog.
