Here are some pictures that Mario and I have taken through the season, mostly while trapping. Enjoy!

Golden Eagle we spotted while driving to Nebraska in October.

December 27th Mario was out trapping by himself and caught this with the camera. Some are a bit blurry, but an amazing sequence!

We spent New Year’s Day trapping and here are some pics from that day.

While we were trying to trap a RT, a BE flew in and landed nearby so we drove over to get a closer look.

After watching this bird fly off to another tree, we went back to where the RT was and continued trapping. We were watching a hag RT when she crashed into the snow but we couldn’t see her. Then from out of nowhere the BE came in and landed where the RT was. The RT then jumped away and flew about 15 feet and landed. Here are the pictures of what happened next…

If you look closely, you can see the RT to the right of the BE hiding in the weeds.

During all of this, there was another bird flying around very interested in what was happening…

We were driving around and saw this prairie sitting on the pole. We said what the heck and threw the trap. The bird was interested, but would not come down. We then noticed a hag RT sitting a few poles down so we went and bumped the RT and the prairie then started eating something it had already caught.

Great pics.
Out of that first bunch the pic of the RT and the BE having at it is amazing.
Just out of curiosity, how does one tell a passage ferruginious from a hag?

The easiest way for me to tell the difference is by looking at the legs. Adults will have the dark legs. The other way is the tail...adults are usually white or silverish color while juvies have a banded tail.
