Western Sporting, NAFEX.net, Archives of Falconry and American Falconry Conservancy Contest 2010

We are pleased to announce, after much thought and planning, that we are ready to launch the first Western Sporting, NAFEX.net, Archives of Falconry Contest and American Falconry Conservancy.

The contest will run from 10/14/10 - 10/31/10 Get your answers in quickly! Time is of the essence.

Contest Rules:

1) Contest begins on 10/14/10 and ends on 10/31/10 @ 2000 hrs Mountain Standard Time (USA). Contestants can enter as many times as they want, but only the last submission form sent in by any particular contestant will be used as the entry for that contestant.

2) There will be 16 prizes awarded. They are ranked from 1 to 16 with Prize 1 being the most valuable.

3) The winners will be ranked 1 to 16, based on their total scores, i.e. number of correct answers. The top winner receives Prize 1, the second-place winner receives Prize 2, and so forth.

4) The prizes will be awarded to those contestants who answer the highest number of questions correctly. If two or more contestants are tied, the earliest submission is the winner. If, for example, 18 entries receive the same score and are thus tied, the first 16 submissions are the 16 winners; the earliest entry would win Prize 1, the next-earliest entry would win Prize 2, and so forth.

5) The winning answers must match those established by Western Sporting. There will be no negotiating over answers.

6) Prizes will be awarded in the exact order that they are listed in the prize section of the contest information. There will be no bartering, exchanging, or swapping of prizes.

7) Western Sporting may use the personal information you provide to tell you about special offers or products that we think will be of interest. Your names, addresses, and email addresses are never sold or given to other parties for any other reason.

8) Winning contestants will be required to pay for all shipping charges of the prize they have won.

9) Please do not telephone Western Sporting to discuss the contest progress or winners—no information will be given until the contest is over. The winners and the correct answers will be announced by both NAFEX and Western Sporting.

10) All discussion of the contest questions is prohibited on NAFEX.net until the contest is over. Any Thread/post that discuss the contest questions will be deleted.

11) Please have fun!!!

The questions were pretty tough. In admit that since Western Sporing has put forth this contest that I will look to them as a falconry supply. And I had not before. I was a big fan of Northwoods and Mike's.
I gave the contest a try. I doubt I'll win anything, but it was fun trying!
I applaud Western Sporting for sponsoring this contest. Thank you, guys.

I got an e-mail last night informing me that I won the #5 prize. I didn't expect to win anything when I entered. Those were some obscure questions.

I want to thank Nafex for running the contest and Dave Frank and Western Sporting for sponsoring the contest.

I also want to recommend Western Sporting for your falconry needs. I've always been pleased with what I've purchased from them. They have also always generously supported the Idaho Falconer's Association raffles we hold at our field meet. All in all a great outfit.

I got an e-mail saying I won the #6 prize. Thanks to everybody that worked on the contest and put it together for us! Thanks to David Frank for the great prizes and for supporting a place like NAFEX!

I've always ordered from Western Sporting. They have the best customer service and are always happy to answer questions. They also always are very generous when it comes to donations for all the club raffles I've been at. GLFA and Idaho Falconers.

Thanks again everybody!

I got an email saying I'd won the #4 prize. Thanks very much to Western Sporting! I will be looking at their books and equipment in the future.

I do have a question for NAFEX members about the prize - might be a newbie question... What are the advantages to choosing one channel over another? Available channels are 1 through 10. I've never used a transmitter before. Please help?

It depends on the receiver you are using. They 216.005 is channel 1 .015 is channel 2 and so on. If you have a 10 channel receiver you are covered. Usually the telemetry company will ask what receiver you are using. If you do not have one of your own ask the person whom you are most likely to borrow it from.

Thanks for your response... sadly I do not know anybody who I can borrow a receiver from right now - and, being in college myself, I don't have the money for one if I am not going to use it right away. Would it be better to simply decline the prize? Sorry for causing such a mess...

Take the prize. Either wait til you know of someone with a receiver to use it or donate it to your state club's raffle.:D Or sell it for some extra student cash.

Good ideas! Do you have any advice about which channel I should choose - maybe which channel is the most commonly used?

Many Thanks to all the fine people from Western Sporting, NAFEX, Archives of Falconry, American Falconry Conservancy. David, Mike, and Chris thanks for allowing us to participate in this very exciting contest.

Thanks from winner #8 (Brittney) for my new Dan Leigh "Little Bear" Kite. The only thing that I have ever won was a gummy bear candy for a correct answer back in Grade 2! Now I have the kite that I wanted to purchase for myself in the future (perfect prize for me)

Additional Thanks from Winner #9 (Ian) of a Custom-Braided Nylon Tethering System.

Hello Everyone,

Well, the contest is over and all the prizes have now been sent out. Wew, it was a great deal of work but also fun. We tried to make the questions difficult and not something everyone could simply Google.

NAFEX is a great place to hang out. Everyone is very helpful and the site is like your own home town with a wide reaching appeal. Chris has done a great job creating a falconer-friendly forum.

Thanks to everyone who entered the contest and to Chris and Mike for their hard work. The technology is in place and we can easily do another contest next year. So keep collecting those obscure falconry facts and keep visiting NAFEX and Western Sporting.

All our best,

David Frank
