Here are some very nice pics (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=241713&id=95847325664&ref=mf) just in from Jon Groves, at the Canadian Field Meet held just last week.

He's become a very capable photographer, getting some amazing images at just the right moment in time.

And what beautiful open country for duck hawking they have up there.

In 2004 I flew out to Hal Webster's place in Montana and we drove up to the Canadian Field Meet at Milk River, Alberta. It truly was the best longwing flying I had ever seen. The country is simple magnificent and the ducks, grouse, partridge, and pheasant were so plentiful we never lacked for a good slip to watch.

The old saying, "Good country makes for good hawks." certainly proved true that week. Spec out pitches and awesome stoops were the rule of the day. The terrain was certainly challenging, especially on the days it drizzled. We were very glad to have our 4 wheel drive vehicles to make it up the slick, steep slopes, but have to tell you coming down the other side was often tricky and a bit frightening at times.

I really wanted to make this year's Canadian Field Meet, but circumstances just wouldn't permit it. Thanks for sharing these pics. They certainly give one a good taste of the fine fellowship and falconry that were enjoyed by all!

I hope to see you in Dodge City at the NAFA Meet.
