I'm new to falconry and am trying learn as much as I can so I thought it would be a good idea to join my state falconry association and NAFA but while filling out the application found here http://n-a-f-a.com/Documents/InteractiveNAFANewMemberApplication20110101.pdf (http://n-a-f-a.com/Documents/InteractiveNAFANewMemberApplication20110101.pdf)it gives you three options 1. a past or current licensed falconer, 2 between ages 12-17, 3, an organization. I don't fit any of those requirements, does that mean I can't join NAFA until I get my license. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Take option 2, Affiliate.

Just so's he's not confused Fred, option 2 is the Associate member. Affiliate is option 3 for organizations. And yes, he should pick #2.

Jeremy,
If you look at the end of choice #2, it says "OR never legally practiced falconry." That's what you want.

RedTail, Kestrels make fine apprentice falcons too :)
I should know, I've flown about 40 in my lifetime. Ton of starlings and sparrows in Westchester and surrounding counties.

I have a question: How can someone join NAFA if they don't know anyone who qualifies for a reference?

Thanks,

Ed

Ed, do you know 2 falconers? That should do for references, but it doesn't have to be falconers.

It costs $45 for a 1 year membership which begins January 1st, it's not a year to date type of membership.

Here is a link to the NAFA website page for joining. You can apply online or you can fill out the information and send in a check by snail mail.
