  1. Thanks much Tim. I'll keep you posted. I concur about the fresh air. Ill med her in the morning. Let her free loft in the day in her mew, bring her in at night, nebulize, feed and put her up on a screen perch in the house. If she makes it, shes gonna hate me big time. Ill deal with that bridge at the time. Again Thanks much. You are the best.
  2. Paul that is correct. The only thing I strongly advise against is the time enclosed with pine needles. This is absolutely worthless as any type of treatment and might even possibly do more harm than good. I would let her have plenty of fresh air. Time spent confined in a GH is not helpful at all unless she is nebulized in it
  3. Good Morning (afternoon) Dr. Sullivan
I dont wish to take advantage of your generosity but my vet, no fault to her, decided to go on vacation. I did line up the meds and wished to run the procedure, as starting today, by you.

    Finnish Female Gos, @1250 gr.
    Voriconazole: 1x daily, .16 ml (100mg/ml suspension)
Lamisil: 1x daily, orally at 20mg per 1000g of body weight
Nebulize: 2x daily with 250 mls distilled water, 250 mg Lamisil, 1/2 ml of 10% Mucomyst

In addition I'm leaving her in her GH with crushed pine needles other than the time I have her out for food and water. I am trying to admin meds in the morning with first nebulize, and feed her in afternoon so to hopefully avoid vomiting.

Again, i cant thank you enough for your generosity of time and advice and regardless of the outcome will be forever in your debt. I intend to post this protocol so other falconers can add it to the multiple experiences and thoughts about asper.

  4. You would nebulize twice daily for 2-4 weeks depending on severity of infection. You would also give Voriconazole orally. In fact, it would be best to give Voriconazole once daily and Lamisil (Terbinafine) once daily. The two antifungals seem to work synergistically.
  5. Hi Dr Sullivan
Not sure I posted these right so excuse the repost if thats the case. Quick question: The recipe for nebulize, is it in conjunction with or in lew of the Voriconizole? How often nebulize? Thanks so much for your help.

  6. Paul I am seeing appointments all day so unfortunately my time is pretty limited today. I think Voriconazole is good as long as it doesn't make your bird regurgitate her food. I cannot recommend Amphotericin however. I find that the disadvantages far outweigh any advantages from it. I nebulize birds for asper with the following recipe: 250 mls distilled water, 250 mg Lamisil (Terbinafine)---crush tablet and stir to dissolve, and 1/2 ml of 10% acetylcysteine--also known as Mucomyst. It works well. Good luck with her. Tim Sullivan DVM
  7. Hi Dr. Sullivan
I was hoping to ask you a couple of questions. I have a 2.5 year Finnish goshawk that went off her food and behavior a few days ago. I took her to the vet and she did blood and gram stain. She was diagnosed with a bacterial infection in crop/ mouth and some form of respiratory fungal infection based on breathing and listening to lungs. first thought is Assper so she recommended nebulizing her with amphotericin B and started her on itraconazole while we wait for Vorconazole to arrive from pharmacy. The bacterial infection she is treating with Baytrill. Ive read your posts on asper and Lamisil and am wondering if this is plan we are on is the best plan of attack.
Thanks so much for your time.
