State and federal surveys in Fort Pierre National Grasslands shows double the males at leks for Greater Prairie Chickens and 20% more birds on Sharptail leks. This is just one survey which is a small area compared to the entire territory of grouse, but defiantly shows an increase in population. Biologists point to the 2012 drought as the reason for the latest decline. I saw lots of grouse that year, it was the cold Spring of 2013 that knocked down the population the way I see it. Either way we are on the increase in this area. Any reports from other areas?
