The best advise I ever got from my sponsor (Mark Fanning) was"Falconry is the sport of taking wild quarry with a trained raptor". And I would add, stay away from Jim and Nancy Cowan. They are not falconers.
On a lighter note, some of the best times of my life were had on the coast of NH flying Black Ducks with a Peregrine Falcon. So good luck and remember,it's supposed to be fun.
