I'll post pics up here soon, he's coming along pretty well for a first bird I think. I just honestly hope I can do him justice. He's a big male with huge feet, so I think he'll be a killing machine. His only holdback will be my inexperience, which I hope doesn't affect him too much.
Well, we'll see. I know the guys who were out trying to get one this year, they know what they're doing, it's just been bad luck and an especially weird fall migration this year. A lot of the birds got blown west of us due to storms around the great lakes during peak migration. But it's true that I'll be monitoring a bunch of good shorebird spots, so if I see peregrines consistently I'll probably help out with the trapping efforts.
Are you studying shore bird's migration in Arkansas? Perhaps you will be able to help those in that state who get the few coveted permits, how and where to actually catch a passage peregrine. Otherwise, they should just give those permits to Texas or Florida. Lauren, perhaps you can be the first to actually catch one there.
You are probably going to some good migration spot along the gulf. I have great memories of St. George Island in Florida. I could stay there from mid-September to mid-October.
