    Default Found Gyr x peregrine

If any one has lost a white gyr x peregrine please contact me at jaredtanner@comcast.net.
Seems to be in good health other than some broken primaries.

Hope you find its owner. Just curious, was there any telemetry on it or mounts of some sorts where there might have been telemetry? Or do you think it was an escapee from its mews?

I was thinking the same thing in addition to a band?

I think I see a band on the right leg below the anklet.

Also, this is another perfect example of having a database out there with every raptor that is banded where anyone could go to it online, put in the band number and get a name and number or email address (which ever the owner prefers to be out there). Even if it wasn't always kept up to date, at least you would have a contact of someone who used to have the bird and they could lead you to the current owner.

If I created something like this I wonder how many folks would take advantage of it? Hmmm, maybe in another thread.

Yes it has a band, also it was wearing a neck mount merlin systems transmitter. No signal, dead battery. Should have been a Marshall )
Makes me wonder how long it's been out. I dot see any posts on the raptors nest that fits the description. I will post it there as soon as I remember my password...
I will also check with the fws on Monday when they open.

Hoods really well. Good manners, a bit vocal when approached, grips the glove and checks for food when picked up. Talons a bit dull. Eats well. Not starving what so ever. All in all a very healthy bird.

Jared, sent you a pm about the bird. Let me know if it is his bird.

    Thanks,

I sure would. Registry just like for the Pet Finder site for chipped animals.

I've considered it, but just Hate the needle and sticking something in my bird. Personal, and not logical, but I have them wear ID tags (two, a medium on one leg and a small on the band).

It's fine for demo birds but for hunting hawks I like less stuff on my birds legs.

I believe: Its not common to chip raptors and I believe less common for rehabbers, state agencies or USFWS to have readers.

A few of my birds are chipped for protection and identification in case of theft but I wouldn't count on it to reunite me with them if they were 'found' from flying free. ID tags and/or ID lids on telemetry.

I believe there is a clause in the regs about chipping so assumptions expressed in the first line of this post could change.

Mr. Mossberg probably provides more protection than chipping and in a pinch Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson would probably lend a hand.

thats why, provided it remains on the bird as in this case, i put my contact info on my transmitters. I use Marshall tx's and i use an electric engraver to put the word REWARD and my cell # on them . i have done this with a Micro too....i hope that this bird finds it's way back home....

You're saying that had the bird been wearing a Marshall transmitter it either wouldn't have been lost or the battery wouldn't be dead? I see the smiley, but that to me is a dig against Merlin Systems that make damn good equipment.

I got a call from Randy Hieght saying that someone had called and found the bird sitting on the road. I called him (this was all about 10:30 at night. While I was talking with him he got a call from the wild life division telling him he could not keep the bird. DUH. (I will come back to that.) So I went down and got it. He said that it flew from him a couple of times but not far. He took a glove and put it over its head and picked it up by the body. For a non falconer he did well I thought.

So back to the UFWS. WHY is it that we cant get them to call back with in a month but they will call a guy like this at 10:30 at night to tell him he is in violation by having it!!! LAME!

Calm down and take a joke would ya. I personally have nothing against merlin systems. I am a marshall fan though.

I have heard merlin or marshall can track a transmitter to the person it was sold to using the serial #.

Also, at least all my merlin transmitters come with my name and phone number on them. It might be hidden under the shrink tubing, but they're on all of mine.

Looks a little like Dave Skinner's hybrid. He uses a neck mount on him. He lives in Fairfield, Idaho. I should call him to see if someones missing.

    Still no dice...
found the breeder (03 hatch) and the next person but the feds confiscated it in '05 because of a paper work issue and I'm still waiting to hear back from them on where they sent the bird. So my trail is dead till I hear from them...

Another opportunity for me to promote my ID tags for hawks. If you don't like a lot of equipment on your bird. The small tags are ideal.

Odd. Well, either the owner turns up or you have a new bird. Win, win.
