Default Only post state info or updated link info here

This thread will remain open to provide a place to post information about the states links and contact info. Once it has been moved to the appropriate state section the post will be deleted. Please help us keep on top of the most current info. Again, this is not a place to discuss regulations or what you thin is right or wrong. Call your local DNR to clarify your questions or concerns.

Again, if info we have is out dated, help us keep it current.

    Links that have been done:

    South Carolina

New york- thanks red tail falconer

    Maine- thanks Tom

Florida and Tennessee - thanks Jen

    Texas_ Thanks Brandi

    Pennsylvania - Thanks Fred

    Michigan - thanks Joe

    Arkansas_ thanks Kim

    New Mexico_ thanks paul

    California- thanks bill

Minnesota _ thanks Bill ( outhawkin)

    Illinois- thanks eragon

Please look at your state and see if they are on the list or if you have any updated info or more info please post it here. I will update as needed. Thank you for your help guys

Fred, I agree. If you all have state club web sites I will include them as well

    Default California

    California Falconers take NOTE:

    DFG:
California requires yearly licensing for Falconers.

The current license says it expires on Feb. 29th, 2008.

California Falconers should see a letter from DFG in the next two weeks that will be a legal extension to their license from February 29th, 2008 to June 30th, 2008.

This change is to make the Falconry License run concurrent with the Hunting License.

Because of this change, apprentices (if they licensed in 2006 or 2007) are forced to add 4 months to their apprenticeship.

    USFWS:
Every time a license is renewed, a copy must be sent to USFWS.
USFWS charges 100 dollars each time they sign off on a permit.
That means Californians must pay USFWS 100 dollars each time they renew.

I received the extension letter today. (2/2/08)

It states that a copy of it must accompany your license at all times.

    Default WA state Falconry

    State club: Washington Falconer's Association : http://www.wafalconers.org/

Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife
    600 Capitol Way North
    Olympia, WA 98502-1091
    (360) 902-2200 (ask for the Falconry Division/Department)

They'll send you a packet containing:

-Potential sponsors in your region. (You can give them a general area of where you will travel to; I said King County and South Pierce County, so they sent me two regions. Note: Even if these people are listed on the Potential Sponsor list, it's no guarantee they'll even take apprentices.)
-Joint State and Federal Falconry Permit Application
-WA state requirements for obtaining a falconry permit
-Guidelines on what your sponsor will expect of you
-WA state Legislation and laws on Falconry
-The Mews/Facilities Inspection requirements and checklist
-Information on NAFA and how to join NAFA (NOT a requirement for a falconry permit!)

At this time, there is no dedicated WA state Falconry website, unfortunately. You just have to call them to get the info, and it's not a very well put together packet either.

Also note, that WA state requires you to have a sponsor to sign your application before they will contact you to schedule you for your exam.

I just received email from the person who is in charge of the Falconry department for WA state, or at least, Western WA.

    Dear Sandie,

Thank you for contacting the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
regarding your falconry application. My name is Cody Arocho, I am
currently the falconry coordinator, and will be processing your
application as soon as I can. Your exam will not cost you anything, nor
will Washington state charge you for a falconry permit. The only fee
that you will see is the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)
will charge you $100.00 for the joint application with Washington state.
That will come later in the process, you will get all that information
mailed to your address. The test are set up when we contact a biologist
or and enforcement officer, they will set a date and time, and then you
will go in, take the exam, and they will send the results back to us.
All that information will be passed your way as well. Thanks for your
patients, and I will get this going just as soon as I can.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact me at
    360-902-2690.

    Cody Arocho

So, that is the person you want to contact in WA/Western WA about Falconry.

    NY State Falconry

I contacted a woman who sent me a brochure via PDF, that had a teaser of information and a mini application to fill out for more information.

If you do not live in NY, they require $2.00 for postage to ship the info packet out to you.

So I filled it out, sent it in with $2.00, and waited.

Less than a week later, I received a large packet in the mail.

    Inside was:

A business card for someone in the Special Licenses Unit (Is it just me or does NY seem to like the "special X unit" tag?! SVU anyone?)

    State application and instructions.

    NY State Licensed Falconers list

    Regional Offices list

    Migratory Game Bird Hunting Regulations

    Falconry Regulations

New York State Falconry Guide booklet

    AND...

New York State Falconry Examination Manual

The study guide isn't as "pretty" or as in depth as the California Study Guide, but it covers basically the same, and you can't beat the price!

As soon as I get Chris' email addy, I'll send him the brochure PDF so he can post it to the NY thread and you can send for your own packet.

    =)
