    Default More "Moran" washers

Here are a couple of hoods I made with the leather donuts...Chris I am not trying to start anything here, many make them and all are a tad different but the end results are similar. I did not want to post on your thread. I just wanted to show MY take on the washers and that I agree they make a great addition to a hood. Hopefully Ray Gilbertson and others will put a photo or two of their unique washers.

    Default making them

    Ken,

I think that most viewing each of the two threads do not realize how difficult it is to learn to make the " Washers/Donuts ". If they tried like I did they would soon learn they are not easy to make and have them look like the ones in both threads. They were hard for me make and mine never did come close to looking like yours and Chris proctors. The first of these I remember seeing we made by John Moran, but I am not sure who originated them. Do you know ?

With a Leather washermachine not to be confused with a Maytag washmachine.

My local leather shop doesn't carry them this big but you can use Wad punches punch instead of trying to hack out a circle with a blade and a small punch.

You make the square ones with a knife, if you are patient.

If you do a lot of leather work your punches will fill up with neat rounds that have to be cleaned out and then if you are bored you can take those and practice punching holes in the centers of each.
