Default Washington Falconers Association Summer Picnic 2012, July 27-29th

Hiya all! Just a heads up that the Washington Falconers Association will be holding their annual summer picnic at the Snoqualmie River Campground on July 27th-29th (with Saturday the 28th being the big auction/picnic day itself).

If you are a new apprentice/pre-apprentice, this is a great place to meet potential sponsors, snag good gear at great prices, see birds of all different species and talk hawkin' with other falconers for hours on end (and isn't that what we all do best?).

There is also a special pre-apprentice/apprentice 'class' that me and some of my fellow falconer friends are hosting from 10 to 11:30am that will cover topics ranging from equipment examples and native raptor natural history, to getting started in Washington as a new falconer and a brief introduction to the language of falconry. We'll have coffee and snacks, so come early!

For more info/details, check out the WFA website - and I hope to see you all there!

Might be there, but kind of doubt it. Quite a long drive from here.

We had a great picnic last Saturday in Fall City. The weather was perfect, the food yummy, and we had a fun auction. Bobby Stickel did a fine job as auctioneer and there was a lot of neat items up for grabs. I was hoping to get a new hood for the FRT I am going to trap this year but as I looked at the hoods up for auction I didn't see any. I was really bummed. When I finished looking at all the items up for auction I noticed a table off to the side that was from Northwoods Falconry. So I make my way over there and lo and behold! A box full of hoods! They were dutch hoods with accordian backs. I ask the fellow about them, and he says they were from the middle east and were $20 dollars each. I bought 3. A size 22, 23, and 24. Hopefully one will fit the bird I trap. I also picked up a new set of bells. It was good to see some of the folks who I had met at last years picnic and some of the falconers who I had hunted with over in Eastern Wa. Mark Hurd was there with his two Golden eagles. I had the pleasure of hunting with Mark last February over by Quincy. I didn't get any pictures of his eagles but here are a few pics of a few the the birds there.
