Thanks Gary, very nice Hawk!
What is the origin of your Red Tail? Is this one of those imported into Alaska from Oregon or Texas?

Great looking bird and beautiful country. Thanks for posting. And no, it was not boring at all.

Jeff !
I went to Texas about 5 years ago and took this bird.
I have about stopped looking for a passage gyr up here, they are so scattered, I have not seen one since about 2 months ago. I had a female come in to my pigeon but did not take it.
I will probably aim at taking an eyas gyrkin this coming season I hope , who knows that far out.
best
Gary
nice! how many have you caught so far? are there plenty to catch?
Jon
Great pics, Gary. Really enjoyed your article in "The Gamebag".

I may be a squeaky new apprentice, but I would have to question any falconer who wouldn't appreciate a photo loaded post. Especially if the hunt took place in Alaska. Just sayin'. Fantastic pics! More please?

Man that is some beautiful scenery. I would get lost watching the scenery and soaking it in. 5 above zero sounds about right for hawking. I went out one time -20f without factoring in the wind. My redtail did just fine. I on the other hand lasted 20 minutes.

To hawk or not to hawk... is that even a question.
Thang about this nice country is the size of it, its just so huge will little to no road systems.
I have to go find the hares, right now they are about 11 hours away.
IF you fly a falcon high like the lower 48 guys you lose it , because you have no way to follow it if it rakes away.
Its awesome to say the least but its a very harsh falconry climate.
The coldest I have hawked in is about 20 below and it was not easy. I would much rather it be about 15 degrees, but thats just me,
best,
Gary
Brrr! I'm glad I got a face mask when I was out shopping for gloves! I don't want to be picking up any face frost while i'm running through brush on snowshoes! Your male is a nice looking GWP too!

Wow Gary, that was a pretty RT. And Alaska is so beautiful. I will visit-- one day Hope you find a gyrkin soon. It would be cool to see your pictures of ptarmigan hunts
Ryan
Thanks Ryan,
It would be great to find a gyrkin, but it may have to wait as I have not seen anything since September.
I aim to trap a goshawk after the new year and that will be a hoot for sure, smiles.
I definitely have plans to hunt ptarmigan off of snowmachines (snowmobiles) That was da bomb in Nome !
Gary, smiles
