People on the IFF play this little guessing game way too often-what's the point exactly? With all the possible combinations of hybrids that are and can be produced, this could go on way too long. Just tell what it is, and dispense with the games. thanks.

The birds name is Reno and is registered as a gyr-barbary, but I personally do not believe he is gyr-barbary......In my opinion gyr-peales but just wanted some other opinions!!! That was the point of this posting. I originally put in random photo's.

I agree with you Amy,Its got a full peregrine cap.No way it doesn't have peregrine of some full capped strain in it.

Who knows, it could be a bunch of different possibilities. Here's a photo of Dale G.'s "Chip", a black gyr tiercel crossed to an anatum female. Very similar.

Wow....looks a lot like him. We have had Reno for about 6 years and always wondered cuz he looks nothing like my other tiercel gyr-barb's. He is super powerful when in flight but scary because he never misses the opportunity to drop a redtail to the ground!!!!

Amy, thanks for the post!! myself I just question some of our breeding stock?look I understand there are some very good reputable breeders!! Not trying to throw rocks at anyone!! Unforunately there are some bad ones also!!In this case the breeder could have bought a GyrX Peregrine that looked like a Gyr!! Not knowing breed a Gyr/peregrineX barbary?

Thanks for posting....you are 100% correct!!! In this case however this bird came from a very reputable breeder, I just think the wrong semen was mistakenly used. This bird is an imprint and we got him at about 10 days old. I am sure every once in a while this does happen especially when you have a large breeding project, but who knows!!!

As I am sure most of you can sympathize, when your favorite imprint, who saves half his meal for you and then tries to shove it in your mouth turns a large female RT into a taco, then follows its limp body to the ground. Then does it again to another one the next day its time to use him for different purposes before he winds up on the wrong end of that situation and ends up dead.

Can't argue with your logic when he starts killing Redtails.However it'd be nice to know what you had for sure so you didn't start producing Heinz 57's.But I guess that"s why you started this thread.

I had a peregrine that liked to kill harriors and short eared owls. I won't say how many but it got so bad I had to stop flying her for a while her first season. I shipped her to a guy who now uses her for abatement on gulls. She loves her new life and he loves her style. Maybe your guy needs a new job where the tails aren't so thick. Shame to put him up in his prime.

Yes, but when you have a hard imprint that won't even look at another person without wanting to rip them to shreds that makes it a little hard. He definitely is not done with flying just makes us a lot more careful about where and what he flies on!!! He is just in a time out!!! We are very particular about how our birds are flown and handled.....I would never consider letting somebody else handle our birds nor would we ever consider handing him over to somebody else. The one and only time we transferred a bird the person almost killed my bird.

this is my tiercel black gyr barb in juv plumage i think the black hood will stay into adult plumage no pere here only gyr and barb flys 595-600g my friend has a gyr rns looks a lot like yours Amy pattern wise just a little less red
