    Default Stolen Harris Hawk

My friends apartment was broken into sometime today, and the only thing they took was The female harris that i loaned him, and some nick nacks. If anyone hears anything about someone trying to move a female harris let me know. we don't think it was someone bird savy cuz there was a female lanner sitting right next to her.

It's most likely a neighbor or someone that's been seen hanging around. Ask the DNR officer in your area to come out and take a report, knock on a few doors, etc. My goshawk was taken by a teenage neighbor last year, I never thought something like that would happen to me and it still makes me sick to think about it. Consider swinging the lure and looking around outside in case they turned the bird loose, that's how I found mine. (They had turned the bird loose by accident and he was still hanging around the area.)

    Good luck!

WOW! That sure was lucky! I'm really glad to hear there was a happy ending to this story! Hope your bird is still healthy and strong, and in good feather to boot!

we don't know who took her. she was found by a nice old lady that was working in her back yard. the bird was tangled by her leash in the ladies bushes. whoever took her took a leash from the room she was in when they took her. they either released her or lost her with her leash on. luckily she did not get hung up in a tree. when DEC brought her back to my friends place today she was low in weight and one of her talons was broke, the sheath had come off the bone so we are not sure if that will even grow back. the old lady that found her fed her some hot dogs so my friend is watching her close and will be feeding her quail for a few weeks.

Hot dogs LOL! Better than bird seed or cracked corn I suppose. Nitrates do a body good in my experience

Hot dogs?!?!?! Hot dogs aren't good enough for a starving coyote, let alone a hawk! People are so weird and clueless..... At least she was kind enough to help, and smart enough to call someone!
