Default Hello from Camp Verde AZ

    Hello from Camp Verde AZ

My name is Matthew Ransom, I’m 49 and I’m from Camp Verde AZ. I’m hoping to start falconry back up after a six year absence due to cross country moves for family and work/college time constraints. I’m permanently settled in Camp Verde AZ now (thank God) and college is done. Here’s my apprenticeship history:

2004 – 2005 AZ apprentice under Randy Hale of Cornville AZ
2007 – 2008 TX Apprenticeship under Gary L. Brewer of Chandler, TX
Total redtail flying time of just over 11 months. I’ve been an apprentice longer than I’ve flown.

I still have all my redtail equipment except for a mews and I’d like to take my time and make a solid and permanent transition back into falconry – better mews, better planning, better preparation.

Any falconers near Camp Verde? I'm going to try and make the AFA Picnic at Thumb Butte Park in Prescott, AZ on AUgust 24th and hope to meet a few local falconers.

Randy Hale was my first sponsor (and hopefully my next to get my apprenticeship wrapped up). I'm kind of in the same boat - 49, FINALLY settled in Camp Verde, and looking to settle in falconry for the long haul.

Yes Randy is a really good guy. He was a really good teacher in that I.E.M.T. class, that he taught in Winslow AZ. Who is your brother in law?

Moves can really complicate an apprenticeship. I moved a total of 4 times during my apprenticeship and had a total of 3 sponsors. It took me 5 or 6 six years to finish and upgrade. haha! But it's worth it. Glad you're able to finally settle down.

In order: Elma, WA - Arlington, TX - Saginaw, TX - Sierra Vista, AZ - Fort Thomas, AZ.
And had three sponsors (technically), first in WA, second in TX who then passed due to health problems before i could get a bird while under her, then the third in TX and had to convince AZ to allow me to keep the third when I moved there so I wouldn't have to get a fourth.

on a side note: it was a pretty crappy apprenticeship, but my falconry kept me distracted from some other crappy stuff that was also happening in my life at the time.
