    Default New Zealand Falcon

From Debbie Stewart of the New Zealand organization Wingspan Birds of Prey Trust.

To the falconers of NAFA, and NAFEX, from ‘down under’, a desperate call to help New Zealand falcons. Every year there is a competition to vote for New Zealands favourite bird, and we need your support! The New Zealand falcon is a threatened endemic species and needs help to increase public awareness. The Wingspan National Bird of Prey Center is campaigning to profile this dynamic and spectacular falcon; numbers are declining due to deliberate persecution and introduced pests.

Please register your vote to www.birdoftheyear.org.nz (if you have different email accounts you can vote numerous times). No donations required, just a simple vote. Wingspan would really appreciate your support, let us ‘throw down the gauntlet’ and vote for NZ falcon; this is a global effort of support.

Thank you from us, from Noel (NAFA member since 1990), Debbie, Wingspan and Koha.

It is interesting that New Zealanders are persecuting them, and yet the Australasian harrier is the only bird of prey legally available for falconry in New Zealand?

If they are being persecuted why is it so difficult to get them exported? I've had a few experiences with these falcons and they are amazing falconry birds.

It would be interesting to compare them side by side with the aplomado.
