Job Description
Pay Range: Depending on ability and or experience
Schedule: Weekly schedule is subject to change through the season based on raptor activity/breeding. Must be able to work weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Position Summary
To acquire and apply skills in aviculture at Iowa Avian Resources. This position will focus on specialized husbandry and research for species that are part of on-going breeding efforts. Excellent opportunity to learn about large raptor propagation including husbandry, incubation, breeding and care.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
• Provide daily husbandry, enrichment and breeding chamber maintenance.
• Assist with observing and recording behavior, manage record keeping related to breeding programs such as pairing, copulation, semen collection, AI, nesting, clutch management, incubation, hatching and care of young birds. Assist in managing and updating egg logs and other forms of record keeping.
• Complete specific projects assigned with minimal supervision. These may include managing data, repairing pens, buildings and grounds maintenance.
• Participate and observe veterinary procedures and practices with the avian collection.
• Daily husbandry in the food breeding buildings including cleaning, feeding, sorting and preparation.

Position Requirements:
1. Candidates should be ambitious and self-motivated with a strong interest in aviculture and conservation, strong communication and organizational skills, attention to fine detail, ability to work independently but to also participate in a team atmosphere. Candidates must have a good work ethic and be able to follow detailed instructions.
2. Candidates may be required to work weekends and holidays and sometimes in inclement weather.
3. Although college degrees in related science is a plus it is not required.
4. Applicants with previous avian husbandry in a zoological or falconry setting is preferred.
5. General computer skills including Microsoft Office is preferred.
