I have seen a couple of people use the carpet. I see it as a lure for the lure, and another thing to carry around. Don't think it is bad but do not see the need for it either and it is definitely not magic.

What it really helps with is being able to use cut up tidbits. This discourages imprints taking possession of larger pieces, which of course, often leads to carrying, aggression, mantling, etc. I usually use a stainless non-tip dog food bowl to do the same, but the carpet is easier to roll up and can help keep tails more pristine. Another option is a small, collapsible step stool, which is even more inconvenient to carry around (easier for longwingers who are never far from their truck), but really helps with manners and feathers.

I see it helping with tidbits. No large portions of meat. The idea must not be used a lot?

I have also seen the opposite re-action with tidbits used in this fashion (female goshawks). The hawk will devour the tidbits in no time flat and attack because "all" of the food is gone so fast.

Just seems like adding an extra step to me! One transfer off game or lure is all that is needed for my falconry. But to each their own.

If you're looking to create custom imprints, you might be wondering if this method is any good. After all, it seems like a lot of work to get the results you want. But, in the end, it's worth it.
