    Default AFC 2009 Field Meet

The American Falconry Conservancy Fall Meet

I wanted to let the membership know that the fall meet will be held this year in El Dorado, Kansas November 17-21. It starts on Tuesday and ends Saturday. We chose those dates so it would not conflict with other meets. We hope everyone can come. The hunting is fantastic, grouse, pheasant, ducks, rabbits and Jacks. It is in the Flint Hills and is a beautiful area. We will send out the Hotel information when it gets closer.

    Thanks,

    Jason

Count Me In. are you going to try to get better rates through a couple hotels, Because I would like to book now so I don't wait till the last min. and forget. I know it is a ways off still, but I like to stay on top of things if I can.

    Thanks

Here is the gist. We want to hang out with falconers and hunt with falconers. No other agenda. Please join AFC to help falconry. Not to go to a meet! If you are not a member. Please become one or come as my guest!

Sign up for AFC is located at www.falconryconservancy.org

    Hope we see you there!!!

I suspect I will come out a few days also. I hate the Thanksgiving day clash one has to deal with. Having to choose to put the falconry over family to attend the entire NAFA meet always bothered me. Family won out every year but one for me.
    Thanks,

Yeah, tell her I love her too!

As for riding down with you... man I would love too! I just have way too many trips planned already! ND, KS, IN are all on the books! Oh... ad Ireland in August! Don't think I can add much more! Plus, you don't want me around Stef that long anyway!!!

    Your pal,

That is the VERY reason we chose to stay away from holidays.

Those dates sound like the time that the eagle club has their meet. I think they are in Garden city, Kansas.

As with all meets, there will HAVE to be some organization. That is all in the works now or I would just post it up here. It will be coming soon. Hotel info etc. No worries!

I would just as soon sleep in a tent or my FJ with my birds. Though, I have to agree with some others on here. I might be getting just old enough to lean towards a nice bed!

sounds workable to me.. keep us informed.. In the last couple of years, there has been a bunch of us going some where the week before and then heading to the nat meet..
two years ago went to Trinadad and then to Alamosa Co.
last year Dodge City and then Amarillo.

this sounds perfect the week before the meet somewhere and then to oklahoma for a couple of days .. I usually have to leave on Wednesday before thanksgiving as I promised my daughter I would be home for thanks giving..
    keep us informed

Personally, I like the idea of less structure. I go to hawk and talk anyway. I think I'll slap those dates on my calendar and see what happens.

There are definitely lots of ducks and ponds, plus pheasants and chickens. It's very nice!

I made my hotel reservations this morning but the person that made them had no idea what I was talking about. I gave them AFC, Ron Krupa, American Falconry Conservancy and they could not find any block of reserved rooms. Anyone else have a problem?

I made my reservations last week. I mentioned that I was attending the AFC meet, but they didn't acknowledge whether they knew about that either way. So maybe I'll show up and no one will be there. This is the El Dorado Spa in Mexico, right? <g>

What does a non-resident temporary small-game hunting license cost in KS? Habitat stamps? Waterfowl stamps? Does KS have any import rules regarding raptors?

Small game license is $71.00 if you buy it at walmart...$75.00 if you buy it online. Not sure bout' pheasant or waterfowl stamps etc....The license is good till Dec 31st 2009. There are no short term (5 day type) licenses available for KS.

Has anyone else booked a hotel room for the AFC Meet? Anymore information on if the hotel knows about the meet when you book a room? Who all is going? I will be there Friday and Saturday.

    I leave Saturday 11/14.

    First stop Kingman AZ..
    then
    Albuquerque, NM
    Weatherford, OK
and arrive in El Dorado on the 17th.

I'm keeping the mileage below 500 per day so I can weather and perhaps fly the birds each day.

From there I go to Kansas City, MO for a couple days with Mom. Then down to Woodward, OK.

The non-resident fees along the way are pretty ridiculous, $70 or more each state. In many ways too much for a one day hunt with no knowledge of each area.

So there lies the problem. If I balloon or kite do I need a hunting license? If i throw a sealed pigeon do I need a hunting license?

El Dorado was an interesting field meet.

Thanks to Ron Krupa (sp?) for doing all the leg work.

I had good success at the meet, taking a teal and helping trap a prairie for one of the forum members who is pretty much a lurker. He had given up and given away his pigeons. We were spotting ponds when we came across this girl.

Here are a shot of the new prairie.
