Talking 09 Imprint Male NA Gos "Jedi" [Blue]

Well I made the plung this year after losing my hen gos this past spring to Asper and now the proud owner of a Male NA Gos from Kory & Bryan's breeding project.......Jedi ! Arrived in great shape after 13 hours on the plane last night...see pics. Placed him in his new nest and he was pumped for action. The best was as I signed the paperwork in the airport he thoughtfully backed up and sliced through the slits in the carrier 2-3 feet and just miss the attendent by microns! He is 26 days old.

    Hi Jim!

Ol' Blue looks great! Had he ate all his food in the bowl when you opened the crate? Red had, but he hadn't been on nearly the length of flight Blue had.

I like his new name.. Jedi!

I can just see him waving his wing over a duck pond and saying, in his best Alex Guiness voice..

"you will flush cleanly off the water and not bail back into the pond"..

    LOL.. Please keep us posted!

    Best Regards,

When he arrived he had approx. 10-15 gms. of food left and was not hungry. He was very curious of his new nest and really enjoyed the everygreens.
My close friend who has flown gos's for over 30 years was utterly amazed at how laid back and non-stressed he seemed and was very happy to run around the shop checking things out.
Even the ride home in the nest was relaxing and was curious to look out the window.

Actually that's what I am going to do very soon. I like to take the nest to a busy highway and sit in the shade read a book and let then watch the cars, truckes etc. go by. He sure seems happy........jm

    Jim,

I got to the Continental office at about 5:30 am and the flight wasn't until 7:30.

I let him eat on the counter in the office while the three guys working their watched.. He took about 1/2 crop.. They though he was pretty cool!

After he ate, I put him in the carrier and he was off..

I am glad that he did eat on the flight. His bowl was completely full and I put some water on top to keep it wet... 13 hours was a long one but it is a good piece of mind knowing that Continental protects the birds from the heat at all points of the flight..

I had done the same thing with Red and he ate all his food by the time he got to OKC.. Good to know..

Blue and the others were exposed to everything, cars, kids, dogs, cats, lawn mowers, etc.. Here is a photo from the 4th with Red and Blue being petted and lots of pictures taken by the people next to us at fireworks. There was also a group of about 20 people playing Frisbee out in front of us too.. They liked to watch the Frisbee fly in front of them.. The last photos is the bird sleeping while the BIG fireworks were going off about 300 yards from where we were parked..

Default Jedi @ 29 Days Old -Sunday 7/12/09

Today Dad put me on the scale and I weighed 27.94 oz. I did have some lunch but not much when I got on the scale. I wonder how I compare to other male NA goshawks?

Talking Jedi @ 30 days today

Well right asdfter work the gos wanted some fresh air and look at the new cars along a major road for the second time. Loved the car trip but was a little sheepesh at the amount of traffic and was not anxious to stand up and boast. Came home and was delighted to stand streach and watch TV with me............jm

On day 29, Armis was 817g. Jedi, being at 27.94oz, was 792g. So he's right there with him. He's looking good Jim!

Does the tree/plant produce some funny little red berry like things with stones in the middle?

This is a european yew often planted as ornamentals in gardens. I think the seeds in the berries are toxic to mammals but not seed eating birds. Don't know about the greenery.

No but the needles look the same. The ones I saw had fruit in the spring, not sure about midsummer or fall. with the toxicity being so high and in the whole plant, makes me think if its worth taking the chance - even if it turned out not to be yew. just my two cents.
