Location

I think it would be helpful if in the location people were required or at least encouraged to have something other than a town name. Many town names I don't know where they are, heck even what country. Town names are often duplicated many times across the country. State, province, foreign country, descriptive region[pacific northwest] would all be more helpful. I am not trying to pin down locations so I can be a stalker, but sometimes it would be useful to know what general area people are in.

I will look into it. The problem is getting people to do it. Many don't even want to sign their names to their posts. It can be a pain PM or emailing people to change it.

sorry but i dont feel that just anyone needs to know where you live there is more then just falconers who read these thread and posts and some who dont plan to do nice things to people or thier birds given out your home town just sets you up for anti hunters or people who feel we dont need to have our birds and they can and will turn them loose

I think it is a decent idea. I dont think its that bad of a request. If antis know your town unless they know who you are im sure they wont search your entire town until they find you to do that stuff. ill change mine

What I think I will do is have the just the state. That helps out the most. If a person wants to know what city they an PM you. I want NAFEX to be a good networking tool. I think this will help

Speaking of, I know someone that needs to change theirs! LOL

Personally, I think boty City and State is nice to have listed! If you know someone's name, you can pretty much find out where they live if you want to bad enough. So worrying about PETA and folks like that, isn't a good enough reason to not have both city and state listed on here.

And again, I wish it was required in their profile for them to list the number of years they have been a falconer. Having someone tell everyone all about how an eagle is flown and then being able to look at their profile and see they are an apprentice would not only help the mods keep some threads on track, it would also help those looking for advice know the experience level of the person posting advice on their thread.

Fred, too much information, until you walk the same field watching the falconer hunt the hawk everything else is speculation? Who should double check with the USF&W to see that they were licensed. What if they were outside the us? Did they have a hawk? Were they hunting it? Want to know more, look them up in your old nafa Directory. PM them, KISS

I agree thats why I put it in my signature. I was just looking at how many posts someone had made and figured that meant they had been at it for awhile. Then I realized that's not necessarily true. It would be nice to see someones "field creds" at a glance.

As far as city location, maybe have it as an option, not necessarily a requirement.

Not true Bob! Sure, someone that has 30 years as a licensed falconer can not know crap, but the odds are against it. And I am not asking for the persons permit numbers, some things we have to just take as the truth. Hell, someone can get on here and post 5,000 times and be dishing out how they did this or that and how to do this and have never flown a bird, but I think most experienced falconers can weed those types out. Listing in ones profile their years experience isn't asking too much, and neither is their city and state. Heck, just do a google search on Bob Payne falconer and you can see you are a "Master Abatement Specialist". LOL

Im going to agree with some of the other posters...state is more then enough; already we are required to use our names, myself and im sure others are not 100% comfortable with this as is. making us post home towns is unnecassary and could be a danger to people's propery and birds.

I never laugh out loud at someone, only with them. Now I might laugh under my breath at them!

And I am with you on not tootin my own horn. I like to look at things from both perspectives, sure some folks would put on their profile their years experience to toot their own horn, and I just ignore those types. But when I see someone posting advice, I am just trying to figure out a way that others could look at their profile and get a feel for how valid that advice might be. There is no sure fire way, but what does it hurt if we had it on our profiles?

Personally, I hate the labels the falconry system has here in the U.S. Apprentice, General, Master, what do they really mean? They have nothing to do with experience, only with amount of time one has had a license. I have flown buteos, accipiters, and falcons but I am far from ever thinking I am a Master at this. Hell, I know less than a lot of you guys have forgotten. And I don't care how long you have flown birds, there will always be a bird that will teach you something new, so you never stop learning.

Ok, I have ranted enough, my red-tail killed a rabbit today, two days in a row she has killed a rabbit. I think all the flooding has driven them into my squirrel spots. LOL And I don't have any briar scars to show for it, so I am a happy falconer. LOL
