    Default Hi from MT

    Hey all,
I've been lurking on NAFEX for awhile and have been a member of another board for a few years, but you all seem to post a lot more pictures :-)

I'm a second-year general up in western Montana, and here's a couple of pictures to get you started:

My merlin (Vangi) is on the right, and my buddy Richard's (Muwala) is on the left. This was 2009-2010 season.

And finally my first bird, my kestrel Rocket. Always have a soft spot for that first bird and especially for this little guy. He flew into a wall and broke his neck. (Photo by Kate Davis)

Been working on a goshawk for this year...unsuccessful on locating a nest and have been trying for a passage bird. Nothing yet but it's still VERY early. Enjoy!

Good luck snagging a passage gos! There aren't enough people on here flying them and talking about them! And welcome to NAFEX!

Hi Ally, welcome to the forum.

I lived in Bozeman for 5-6 years and chased all over western montana! I sure do miss it, you should post up some mountain pictures...

Good luck getting a gos, hope you find one soon!

    Mountain pictures? Like these?

Up Big Creek hiking this summer, waterfall down the rocks. Had to wade up a creek to get to it

Kootenai Creek in the Bitterroot, view from near the top of the trail

And my favorite, Lake Waukena. Half-frozen on the 4th of July. 7 miles one way, and knee-deep snow. This is down by Dillon, MT.

    Ally,

Lake Waukena is very beautiful, but a little to cold for me.
    Very nice pictures, thanks.

In high school I lived up in Columbia Falls and worked summers life-guarding at the Big Sky Waterslides, just a stones throw from Glacier National Park.

I have driven in Montana a few times. Great views. Almost as cool as Nevada. And since U of M Griz are NCAA, not NAIA, I too give a hearty GO GRIZ!

Right on Ally! My wife and I kept birds when she and I were in Collage. I just hate it when folks complain to me that they "can't practice falconry because they are in school..."

The best of luck locating your Gos, what a perfect location to be hunting with a Gos, too. (yeah, I am totally jealous )

    Great Hawkin

No I don't have her--I can manage one bird while I'm in school but never two! I work full time too. I'm a little insane but not THAT bad lol.
The prey base for a merlin here is good but the space isn't. If i can't locate a gos, I will take any other small accipiter...little male coops or a sharpy I think.

    Hi Ally,

I was just thinking how most of my coops came to me...from coops. Ya know, chicken coops, pigeon coops, etc. So be sure to let any farmers/ranchers, pigeon fanciers and 4-Hers you know of in on the fact that you are in the market for an Accipiter. They probably have a couple hanging around their place, and they wouldn't mind seeing them find a new home.

    great hawkin
    Tom
