Default Sold- PRE-PUBLICATION ANNOUNCEMENT- From the Archives of Falconry

AN ANCIENT SPORT IN THE NEW WORLD: A HISTORY OF FALCONRY IN THE AMERICAS
    S. Kent Carnie

This book is the first published survey of the history of falconry in our hemisphere, necessarily heavily weighted toward North America. With some pre-Columbian speculations, the work describes and illustrates the history of the sport in the New World from Columbus’ initial voyages of discovery through the end of the twentieth century.

Custom designed and printed, this volume contains some 480+ pages (including 48 pages of obscure reference documents) with 350 illustrations in black-and-white and color. Overall dimensions: ca. 11” h X 9” w (28 x 23 cms.). Hard cover, case (sewn) bound in the finest quality book cloth, dark brown spine on hunter green with embossed gold foil stamping matching earlier volumes in this series; archival paper, individually numbered, with a list of advance Patrons and Subscribers bound in. The Patrons Edition is the same as the Subscribers Edition internally but, additionally, with finest natural, quarter-leather case binding with marbled end papers and a custom, matching slip case.

Standard, SUBSCRIBERS’ EDITION: (individually numbered copies S-1 through S-400*), Pre-publication price (until 1 September 2013): $offer is over, each After 1 September: $offer is over

    Deluxe, PATRONS’ EDITION: (individually numbered copies P-1 through P-200*). Pre-publication price (until 1 September 2013): $ 125, each.After 1 September: $ offer is over

Air shipping in the U.S. included; (outside the U.S. at cost). Our objective is delivery prior to Christmas, 2013; actual date determined by timing of orders.

Every effort will be made to provide copies numbered to match numbers previously received, however, priority for such will be given to orders received during the above-noted pre-publication period. To facilitate matching copies, please remind us of the copy numbers you wish to match (P-? or S-?). This is especially important for those of you who may have obtained copies on the secondary market.

Volumes I and III in our Heritage Series were out-of-print shortly after publication. The great majority of the 1,500 copies of Volume II, the Craigheads’ Life with an Indian Prince, have been sold.

( * Number of copies subject to the extent of pre-publication orders.)

I thumbed through a working copy while at Kent's house a couple years back. That and Jim Nelson's(Kent had a working copy of this title there as well) hood book looked great from what little time I had with them both.

ah, if you'd been in Alamosa, you'd have yours already . I would guess Kent's shipping what he couldn't hand deliver now.

Yeah I should have made the trek. The new kid is greatly hindering my falconry this year. Can't wait to get this book. Any reviews to wet my appetite?

You sound like you are from New Jersey. Do these "people" coincidentally
have names like "Tony" and "Vinny"?

The book is great! Really well done Kent! I'm just about finished reading it, and there are SO many great little nuggets of historical information in those pages. If any of you were there for Kent's lecture and slide show at the Alamosa meet, and enjoyed some of the stories and photos that he shared with us that night,... they were just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. If you haven't ordered a copy and you have ANY interest in how our sport evolved on this continent, get one! That's my little plug for the book. Enjoy.

I heard the Patron's Ed. is sold out, and the subscriber's ed is down to maybe 90 copies. Might not want to wait too long.

I am kind of sorry that I gave that book to my wife as a suggestion for a Christmas gift. Now if she decides not to get it I may have to wait for someone to die and their spouse to want to get rid of all of their falconry crap!
