Just like the last twenty plus years, I will resolve to attend and then not. Can't believe I have never been and am only a short days drive away. Maybe this year......

I'll be there. You can count in me. And if the bird is doing well I might even fly. Stephen

I'll be there, I don't think I've ever missed one in 35 years. It's a good social event so come if you can. You may see falconers you haven't seen in many years.

Anybody going to the Utah Sky Trials and merlin meet coming through Missoula Mt? I'd be willing to split expenses for a ride. Richard evergreenweed@yahoo.com

Was hearing that there might not be a banquet this year, is that true?

I would be surprised if that were true. That's when and where they announce the winners and have the raffle/auction.

UPDATE:

2-4-11
Large White Tent. Another note to contestants. Please be aware that we will have a large white tent out there, perhaps bigger that previous years, for the raffle (which will be held in the field this year), award presentation, eating, etc. And there will be the usual sound system with Howard Brinkerhoff on the mic. It will be a fun atmosphere, but not exactly the quiet solitude of some hunting flights. No judged flights on Friday either ....looks like they are really cutting back this year... http://www.utahskytrials.com/

News to me but what do I know. It will be fun doing it that way. I'll have a hood there for the raffle.

Looks like the judging rules have been changed and simplified as well and I like the changes.;)

No banquet. Merlin meet will be thursday and friday 10am same motel the Best Western Timpanogos Inn in Lehi, Utah. Friday will be a free for all flight day for anyone who wants to fly on the pigeons, pigeons are provided. Saturday there will be 15 judged flights and the winners will be announced in the field. Also the raffle is going to be held in the field. This is what i currently could pick apart from the updates on the website.

So why is it so scaled down this year? With the new regs what is to prevent the first person that enters from entering 15 birds and claiming all the prize money. $50/entry x 15 entries = $750. $1750 in prize money + a possible extra $200 is an instant profit of $1000. Not that that would happen, but.......

My guess is that patrick is possibly wanting to hand it off to someone else. Its a TON of work and for all the bitching he gets every year it might not be worth it to him.

And in the rules it states 2 birds per falconer. Unless all slots arent filled by the 14th.

Tough year with the rain issue! Congrats to 1,2 and 3
Andy Doran, Fred Killpack and Vahe Alaverdian! Good job guys!
The bummer of the day was Brad Townsends bird that might have won. The only one to kill the pigeon and before Brad could get there an eagle killed his 7 year old hybrid.
Ended up flying 17 birds.
