Hi all,

My name is Neil Hunter, I've flown most raptors over the years, such as peregrines on grouse and goshawks on pheasants, but now enjoy flying Golden Eagles at blue hares on Scottish moorland over cocker spaniels and german wirehaired pointers.

Here are a few photos from the season and look forward to chatting with like-minded falconers across the pond.

Beautiful falconry my friend. I am envious. Do you ever see wild peregrines stooping at the grouse or hares. I do.

Wow, impressive. Those hares look like an handful. Even for an eagle.

Yes, I have regularly seen grouse knocked down by peregrines while out on the moor.

Atb,

Neil.

Welcome to NAFEX Neil.

I didn't know hares came in that size. What part of Scotland do you live ? A friends family once owned land there ( Galloway County ).

This is the Nelson , my 2 year old home bred male Golden Eagle. I flew both his parents for 7 seasons before putting them together for breeding.Nelson was the first youngster bred from the pair and has turned into a fine hunting eagle. The pair are currently sitting 2 eggs again.

I thought you might like to see this unusual photograph. This hare was initially missed by Nelson after a downhill slip of about 300yds. He swung round and took the hare well in mid-air on his 2nd attempt as it jumped the stream. As I made my way down I could see him splashing around. This was what I found when I reached him.

Atb,
Neil.

SWEET! My FRTH drowned a rabbit in the middle of a small pond once. I had to wade in and retrieve them both. She was up to her chest in water. I thought it was unusual for a RT. I didn't get nearly as good a picture as you did--that's awesome.

Do you think the hare was saying to itself "I've always hated water...great, thanks..."
