So he's 31 days old today (16/16/11) and is weighing in at 1lb 6oz, here's this year's project. He's been with us for just over a week and I can hardly recognise the chick I first picked up. We picked him up from Paul Burns in Stirling, Scotland from a gorgeous farm house in the middle of nowhere. When we walked into the kitchen he was sat there huddled up with his sister on the kitchen table, whilst the dogs wandered around.
My aim with him is to preferably take game of any sort. After talking to Paul, I am very excited to get him up in the air, if he's going to be anything like his parents then he's going to be very interesting indeed.
Anyway here is just some of the gorgeous scenery we experienced:

I think it's a Saker or Saker cross. If it was a spar I would want its brother cause that would be something! :D

The little bitty beak does give it away as being a falcon, but beyond that, I would be clueless as well, and I've only probably seen a handful more falcons than Brian, albeit none of them eyass'.

Ray, not everyone lives in falcon country where all the falconers fly them. Out here they are definitely an oddity.

The original poster's signature line seem appropriate. toungeout

Love the look in that first photo of him. Looks like a little gangster.

Black eyes, always the most obvious give away for a falcon of any species but one (one kestrel species has white eyes...weird). They have them when young, old, in between.

I'm going with Falco peregrinus peregrinus.

Yes as Mark has mentioned, Chuck is a male imprint Prairie :) My first venture into imprint falcons and I thought i'd go for what i've always wanted. I thought you Americans would have spotted the prairieness a mile off :)

I'll get some more pics up now, have meant to for a while!

22nd June 2011

Chuck came for a nice walk with us and the dogs yesterday evening, his first of many. He was very good considering he was being blown about all over the place by heavy winds yet she sat on the glove very composed. I hooded him for a few minutes and he reacted very well whilst also being very comfortable with the dogs running round all over the place. Rob's got some pictures on his phone which i'll put up when he gets home. He's a little bit noisy but I think more than anything, he was just voicing his opinions on the surroundings and the weather.
Overall a very positive outing, he'll be flying soon the rate he keeps trying to escape his box.
